Sorry for the stupid question. 1 per 30 new but used?

Im not searching the right terms or something but i have a gun i bought NEW but does the 1 in 30 for handguns apply for a used handgun?

My friend bought a new handgun about a week ago but now he found a revolver he wanted in the used market but is a PPT time gap different than a new purchase?

I truly apologize for the very noobish question but i truly don't know and ive been searching for the subject but internets out and im on my slow phone

PPT doesn't count in the 1 in 30.

Go crazy but the private resale market is all about gouging especially if the gun is off roster.

'New' and 'used' are not the factors.

'From whom do you buy' is the question.

Dealers sell both new and used guns - purchases from them generally are covered by 1 in 30.

Private individuals sell used (mostly) and new (sometimes) handguns; except in the City of LA, handguns sold by private individuals in a California PPT are exempt from 1 in 30.

And long guns never have a 1 in 30.

Anywhere inside LA city limits all handguns are subject to 1-in-30 no matter what and it is illegal to transfer a subcompact. Take a trip outside city limits and you're GTG.

In any other part of California, only PPTs are exempt. However many of the used guns for sale at stores are actually consignment, in which case they are also 1-in-30 exempt.

You find a deal every once in a while. Saw a CZ 97 today for $550 (it's gone) and a couple weeks ago there was a GP100 out there for $350.

It's not gouging if there are buyers willing to support the high prices. Basic principal of economics: supply and demand.

Just to confirm that when you guys speak of "inside LA city limits" it is to denote the location of where paperwork is filed and not the residence of the person buying so a person living in the city of LA, can go to say San Diego and buy more than 1 handgun in 30 days. Correct?

Correct. It only applies if the transfer is physically done in LA city limits. An LA resident is fine doing it in San Diego or even in LA County outside of LA City (e.g., Burbank, Culver City).

People often don't realize that most of the San Fernando Valley (Northridge, Canoga Park, etc.) is inside LA city limits. Consult a map of LA County.
