Any additional work needed for it, or is it good to go out of the box?
Such as? Range officers opinions are like *******s, everybody has one.

The CZ75 SA .40 is not perfect by any means.
The reduced capacity of the standard capacity mags kind of blows at only 14.
You have to load the bullets short, like right at the shoulder on the neck unless you ream the barrel.

However, it is just as reliable and accurate as the 9mm and the trigger feels better than a Glock's trigger stock. It is even better after some work is done to it.

I love my Glock 23C with a KKM barrel. It is a tack driver but I might actually sell it and get a regular one or I will get a non ported slide for it.

Hmm, not really... just something with a good, crisp trigger, though I know it's somewhat hard to find in stock triggers.

Thanks @MCM, totally forgot about the 229.

My top choices are probably the Sig P229 and CZ75 SA at the moment. But I have a feeling I might just end up keeping/shooting my G23 lol.

Beretta 96A1 is a good pistol. You can buy brand new chrome lined military Beretta 92 9mm barrels on ebay for around $90, and convert the 96 into a 9mm. The 96 magazines I had would work when loaded with 9mm, but since this is California, and you can load more than 10 rounds of 9mm into a 10 round 96 magazine, it might be better to get at least one 10 round 92 9mm magazine to look legal.

I have a Glock 20 10mm with a Lone Wolf 40S&W barrel. You can also get 9x25 Dillon, 9mm, and 38 Super barrels from Lone Wolf for the Glock 20.

The other ones that might be good are the PX4 or CZ75 (both already mentioned above).

HK P30 is a solid value. Great accurate gun all around and yes you will feel the recoil unlike a G23.

I have a Beretta Px4 and a Ruger P94 both in .40S&W and they are both great shooters. The Px4 does have a little trigger bite issue, but gloves solve that.

You should never need gloves to shoot a handgun, unless your hands are cold ...

                              I agree.

My G23 Gen3 has a serrated trigger, so I occasionally get a sore finger after shooting for a while. Gonna replace that with a smooth-faced one.

I have shot a few 1911s and handled a really nice SVI and still like the glock trigger. I actually think they are pretty nice. Maybe I just got lucky lol.
