Ruger GP 100 parts and ammo questions

    Hello,

I just got a GP100 4" blued. Love the gun. My question is, what other sight options are there for the GP besides the williams sights. The williams seem to be great so i may get them. But im curious what other sights are there.

I want steel sights that are durable. More of a combat sight than a target sight I guess.

Also what 38/357 ammo have you guys used for good accuracy? I bought a box of Federal 38 130grn fmj, Fiocchi 38 130grn fmj, and Blazer 357 jhp 158grn.

Im going to test accuracy with these three for now. Im hoping i can find one that i can repeatedly hit 100yard plates. I can do it with my G19 and Fiocchi 9mm.

Thanks guys. Everything else on this pistol is perfect, especially the grip.

I bought a GP-100 back in 1986 when they first came out. After almost thirty years and steady diet of Remington 125gr 357 Magnum ammo I finally cracked the forcing cone. Returned it to Ruger and they refurbished it to as new for free! I have never had an issue with the factory sights and like I said shot countless 125gr Rem 357 Mag Bulk Value Packs from Wal-Mart.

I went with Meprolight Tru-Dot sights. They aren't metal but they are fantastic sights. Mine is pretty accurate with any ammo. I love my GP100

I put a HiViz FO front sight on my 4" SS.

It shoots everything I put in it. In .357, have shot Amscor, FM, Underwood, Fiocchi, and some range ammo. I've shot more .38 spc and have shot mostly FM.

I ended up staying with the factory sights on my KGP-161 and I'm very happy with the sight picture and accuracy. If I was expecting a significant amount of low light shooting I might go for something with better light gathering abilities but as is, I wouldn't change anything about the revolver.

I have good eyesight but I still feel like the black front sight dissappears? Then again Ive only been looking at it inside the house. Going to go test it out this week. So I guess i will see how it goes with outside daylight.

I was going to put some white nail polish on the front sight to see if it helps.

What are these sights made of? Plastic or Steel or ?. Thanks, I looked up the website but couldnt find what material they are made of. Im hoping steel because I wanted something super durable. Something that can take a drop if it happen. Hopefully it doesnt.

Midway has this OEM front sight that look pretty slick, it fits the GP-100 as well.

                    Cheers,

Bowen Classic Arms makes a really good sight. It pairs up really nice with a Dawson FO front sight. Check out the links.
