    p227, or equivalent

Hey guys, so Ive decided im going to save up for a Sig p227

I really want an all metal .45, not a really a 1911, because the 1911 i want is 1500 dollars and the only other 45 i want is the mk 23, but not right now in my life.

Im looking at the p227 witht he 4 inch barrel, mainly will be a house gun, but if i need ot carry it the 4 inch barrel is fine (ima big dude so shouldnt be hard for me to conceal)

But what i wanted to do before i make the purchase is look at other competitors in and around the same style and price as the sig p227

what are some other models out there that would be close that i can look atso i cansee what i like or dislike. just some thoughts, Ive been looking for reviews but it seems to be a pretty newly release gun.

FYI i am not looking for a striker fired 45, as i feel i have all the striker fired pistols i will ever need currently and if i do buy another striker fired pistol its because im buying te same one as one i currently own. I only own polymer handgun striker fired handguns, and the sig p 227 looked really nice. I also Eyeballed a p220, it was also really nice, but you know 10+1 is still better than 8+1 rounds of 45, and if i was gonna pay te price for a p220 id rather paya lil more and get a range officer.

sorry if this seems winded, i was just wondering if anyone has used a p227 or has one and wanted to pick their brain a lil bit

I recently purchased a 227, and could not be more pleased. Holster and hand fit are very close to the Sig 226. I am completely satisfied and would do it again in a heart beat. For comparision, my current .45's include an original 1970's Colt combat commander, an HK USP and a Glock 41.

All different and all have their own personality and strengths.

I don't own one, but I want one (badly). I'm willing to trade my brand new Sig 1911 for one.

Anyways, onto your question, they shoot great. At least the one (1) I tried. It was a 2014 vintage with the slim grips and night sights. The trigger is long and would require work if you have small hands. I would say my hands are medium and the grip / trigger location in DA was something to get used to. I would turn it into a SAO pistol, so the DA issue doesn't bother me. Accuracy was well above par for a service pistol. I would say with a good action job and adjustable sights it would make an amazing target gun.

I would suggest shooting one before buying.

If you like the MK 23, why not just get a USP 45?

Ill say this as well. Id take an older p220 over a p227. especially a german made one.

Good afternoon. apologies for a lengthy post. I too was once like you. my first higher end handgun purchase was a sig p226. was my favorite gun and I still hold it in very high esteem. when I heard there was a p227 becoming more available I rabidly searched for one thinking it would be my be all end all double stack .45 of amazingness. I got one through one of my favorite ffls. however it had problems right out of the box as illustrated in my thread here:

the p227 is nowhere near as nice as my older p226. in fact its been a thorough disappointment. why you might ask?

                          1) the e2 grips are cheap feeling and horrible. especially for bigger hands. also replacement grips are very expensive right now not nearly as ubiquitous as other sig pistols.

                          2) the short reach trigger. it pinches my finger and I just outright hate it. so thats another 40 bucks plus install.

                          3) this is what really annoys me the most. it feels cheap. I can see where they cut corners when I compare it to me p226.

Now all this being it is NOT a bad pistol. you may love it. for me if I had to sell a gun ( I never sell guns only buy) the p227 would be the first on the chopping block.

So with all this despair with my new pistol waiting for my p227 to come back I bought a cz 75b on a whim. it is now my favorite platform by far. I went looking for a cz 97b next and was woefully unsuccessful. this led me to the eaa tanfoglio witness line. it is an all steel modular cz clone. it has a lower bore axis than the sigs which are notoriously tall. runs very similar to a 1911 in that it can be cocked and locked. only downside in which you may be more interested in the cz 97bd which has a decocker. the witness elite match in my opinion is one of the best bang for your buck pistols out today. its semi custom sao with a match trigger for about 650 otd. Ive got the sar k2 which I can not talk of much since Ive only handled while it awaits me in jail but its a real tank and solidly made. I think its going to be one of my favorites. I hope this helps and if you decide tl;dr Ill leave you with this. all in my opinion.

                          1) eaa witness elite match comes with rail accessory
                          2) cz 97 b/bd or sar k2 (sar k2 if you want a rail)
                          3) sig p227

I hope this was helpful. if you have any questions feel free to post or pm. also Id be more than happy to let you try out some of these things and make up your mind for yourself. good luck to you either way

I have P220 and have both 8 rounds and 10 rounds magazines. It's single stack so having rosewood grips don't make it thick, just right.

Thanks osis32. The info was great, sorry bout the trouble you had with your 227

I'm not planning on making this purchase for about a month or so, and funds free up, but my friends are saying save up more and get a mk 23, well see but it is good to kno what other options are out there

And are the German made 220s really that much better in quality? I've always read that but never actually handled a German made sig,
