Double Stack 1911's - Yes / No / Meh.....

Im liking the 10+1 double stack 1911's Ive grabbed before the SSE door shuts -

Especially since I can run my non-neutered mags (12+1 / 14+1) on my AZ property...

Who else likes'em or hates'em..?

Double stacked 1911's (AKA 2011) are popular for the Limited Class division in USPSA, especially the STI branded versions.

Other than that, I don't see much need for them.

if you ever plan on getting into USPSA, i would recommend picking up a 2011 as your last SSE!

I like the idea of a double stack 1911, especially some of Para ordnance's offerings that originally come with 14 round mags if you live in a free state. I have heard that extra mags are somewhat expensive and that they are not completely reliable however. OP what brand double stack 1911's do you have and how is the reliability?

I like the double stack 1911..........but ! here in Cali, it is just a FAT 1911 with a 10 round Mag ! and yes the mags are not cheep.

I shot a para many years ago. Never took to the grip. Just too much attached to the single stack 1911. To each their own. If you like it get it.

Eh, I just bought some 10-round power mags instead...

The STIs and SVs both have better grips than the Para does.
I have shot all of these and they all work well.
I used to compete with Paras (P14-45 and P16-40) I then switched to the SVs and STIs where are a higher quality firearm.
Magazines are available that are reliable for each but with California's limitation to 10 rounds there is little benefit compared to a regular 1911 in 9 or even 40. In 45 the single stack can used an extended 10 round mag so there is no benefit there either. The benefit is when you can used the standard capacity mags.
In conclusion, if you are limited to 10 round magazines then a single stack will fulfill all your needs and have a slimmer grip.

Im surprised I like the ATI Fatboy 1911 as much as I do.

3.5" subcompact is thinner and lighter than my G30SF -

Other dimensions are almost identical.

Ive shot about 500 rounds through it (WWB 230gr FMJ) without an issue once I got past the first few mags full.


The other one is a 5" Para....

Actually my ATI is thinner and lighter than my G30SF -

With the neutered 10+1 capacity.

When in AZ - The 12+1 capacity uses the same size mags.

Interesting to note I shoot it much more accurately and get back on target faster than my G30SF also -

Much lower center of gravity seems to work for my shooting style...

I do not think I'd have one except for USPSA stuff.

I dunno. I got a 2011 STI Steelmaster, a dedicated steel gun . After only firing it once I took it to a match and blew away my previous best time. They make a dang nice gun. And if you need more than 10 rounds for a string you're doing something wrong anyway.

I was so impressed with the STI 2011 our December SSE slots are a STI Eagle for IDPA and an Edge for Steel iron sights and can use in limited or 3 Gun if I ever have the time to get into that too..
