Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum. Do you have a CCW? Do you go hiking in animal country?

G20. Just bought a G20 Gen4. My G21 Gen4 is my favorite handgun that I own in terms of shooting enjoyment right now, and that is a pretty long list to be at the tops of.

There is really nothing comparable to the G20 Gen4. There are a whole lot of pocket .380s that pull off the pocket .380 a lot better than the G42. The G42 also still has documented problems.

I have both. The 42, while a nice, under one pound, fully loaded back pocket, let's take a stroll gun, it isn't a recreational machine.

I've assigned that job to my new Ruger LC9S model, which is slightly larger than a 42 but runs 7 rounds of 9MM.

For many, many reasons, a 10MM Glock 20 is my choice for best handgun in the world.

          1. It is an absolute HOOT to shoot. What fun. 15 rounds of 1600 FPS, 135 grain hollow points that zip thru metal car doors or windshields for those nights you're passing thru Oakland after taking a wrong turn down that 'No Outlet' alley...

          2. You can overhaul a G20 with a stick

          3. It runs .40 caliber out of your stock magazines and normal barrel.

          4. It will run .357SIG or 9X25 with a barrel change.

          5. It will run 9MM with a recoil spring and barrel change.

          6. It runs Hot Ammo and takes longer barrels for woods hunting.

          6. Plenty of aftermarket sights

          7. You can go swimming with it and it still runs 100%

          8. It forces you to get into reloadng. Well worth it.

          9. 10MM has more foot pounds of energy at 100 yards than .45ACP has at the muzzle. The round can really reach out distance wise.

          10. The G20 frame runs a 10MM Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Upper. Another fun rifle for SHTF or trunk gun (Upper). The 16 inch barrel runs the velocity over 2000 FPS......

I just want another Glock. I already have a 2 1911 in 10mm and Glock 21 but for some reason the G20 Gen4 feels smaller probably due to the back strap. I just don't want to buy one now with all the price hike due to SSE craze. I know it's a different topic, but I wonder if the market place will get flooded with PPT and will be cheaper to get one then. I already have a S&W Bodyguard 380, so I may just jump on the G20.

Oceanbob, is your 20 a Gen 3 or 4? I've been looking at a Gen 4, but people keep saying they don't handle the high-power rounds as well as the Gen 3.

That's interesting. Why would Glock do that? Is it a lighter recoil spring, maybe over throating? I want to know also.

I've seen random grumblings about GEN 4 G20's having issues with hot ammo, but I haven't experienced any with mine. My standard 10mm load is a 180gr JHP @ 1250fps, but I've also loaded & fired 150gr JHP's @ 1450fps & 200gr WFNGC's @ 1150fps. None of those loads gave me any issues.

Strategically, I'd go with the GEN 4 G20. I have a feeling there won't be a shortage of G42's for sale in CA in the next few years, but the G20 isn't anywhere near as popular. Also, most guys that own 10mm's tend to hang on to them.

The GEN 4 G20 has a better stock trigger than the SF (GEN 4 G20/21's have the best stock Glock triggers period), the grip size feels smaller/better than the SF, the texture is perfect, the bigger mag release is perfect & you get 3 mags instead of 2.

                    ETA:
I currently own both the GEN 4 G20 & G42. I had 2 G20SF's at one point (6" G20LS & the other was built up as a USPSA Limited Gun), but decided to sell them once I bought the GEN 4.

The fact that it can shoot 40 is just obscenely convenient.
