    Handgun was never DROSed?

So I have a glock that I purchased at a gun show few years back. They did my paperwork and held it for 10 days. I recently decided to add it to my ccw but when I took it to the Sheriffs Dept they informed me it was never DROSed. Going back to the seller is not an options. Isn't there a form I can fill out and Mail to have it registered? A part of me says awesome an unregistered Glock but I don't want any issues down the road with this. Any ideas??

Do you have your paperwork from your 10 day wait?

Great question. There's a few forms available on the DOJ website but not really any guidance on which one to use.

Maybe the statement of ownership form is correct.

First of all, there is no law against owning un-unregistered (non AW) firearm in CA. So, that alone won't get you in trouble. However, putting it on your LTC could be an issue depending on the IA.

CA DROS of handguns has been around since 1924.
Paper records are slowly being inputted into AFS.
They started with 1990s paper records and are working back towards the 1920s.
Supposedly, they are currently doing the 1960s paper records.

what if you pawn it? Won't it get DROS'd when you pay the pawn fees?

We are seeing this more and more often with the increase in ccw request. Sometimes it's as simple as an incorrect serial number. Sometimes it's a complete fubar on DOES end. If you still have the copy of your DROS this will answer a lot of questions. This gun was DROSed if you waited your 10 days. Did they have you sign a DROS? How many years ago.

I had the same issue: http://calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=913240

Basically, to solve the issue, I sent it volreg on the (one) gun I wanted to carry/register.

A LOT of folks had this issue, including myself. In the end, there is no law against unregistered guns. And having one may be to your advantage YMMV.

I don't have the paperwork and it was about 4 years ago.

As somebody else also mentioned, use this form:
                      Firearm Ownership Record

And send in your check with it. That will get the gun registered to you.

The gun registry is known for errors. You gun may have been input with the wrong SN or registered to somebody else. Sacramento can be very creative in how they mess stuff up.

As noted, if it's important, like you want to add it to a CCW, you should submit the form above and hope they don't enter it wrong.

I used the ownership report before I got my CCW from Carona in OC. I had a Commander that had been in the family for quite some time and I wanted to have it on my permit. I proactively sent the form in just to be safe and had no problem when it came time to file. Hutchens didn't renew my permit, and I now live in the forbidden zone of LA County.
