Sight adjustment...when?

With a new pistol can I start adjusting the sights right away? Or, should I shoot some before starting to mess around with the sights?

Shoot first, insure your technique is excellent. You do not want to adjust to a shooting error. If the sights are fixed, they are where you need them. I know some people who put witness marks on there sights so if they move in the future they can visually see that they moved. It happened to me once and I lost a match because my rear sight mount on a rifle was very slowly drifting on the final hour of the final day of a shoot, now I use witness lines/marks, even if its just a pencil mark after each cleaning.

When you're holding to point of aim and just not hitting what you're aiming at, as long as your technique is correct, only then should you make corrections to your sights.
