    Sig P226 DAO to DA/SA

    Hey guys/gals,

Anyone know of a gunsmith in Southern California (preferably in Orange County) who can convert a P226 DAO to a DA/SA?

I know that I can send it into SIG and they will charge roughly $199 to get it done. I also know, based on what I have heard, that it is fairly easy to do the conversion myself if I have all the needed parts.

The only problem is that I don't trust myself as I am bound to lose a spring, something else, or simply break it. So... I'm willing to pay a local gunsmith to do it. Who knows, maybe it will be cheaper than the $199 price tag charged by Sig.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your responses, and sorry for my ignorance about this whole process.

If you're not in a rush, wait until Sig put out a promo. That's what I did when I sent my P229 DAO for DA/SA conversion.
Contact jay.bernotas@sigsauer.com and ask him when the promo is. You'll get a good discount.

if you send the pistol into Sig for their service plan (SSP) with the parts they will do it as well. Its $145 but they offer it several times a year for 99 bucks. You get all new springs (if any need to be replaced) and new night sights.

Before you send it in, take off the left side grip panel. Right above the magazine release there should be a hole in the frame.

The hole should be where the red circle is:

This image has a decocker installed. When in DAO configuration, it will just be an empty hole there.

A very small number of the early DAO Sigs did not have this hole. Without it there isn't a way to install the decocker.

Those guns can't be converted to DA/SA since you can't drill a hole in the anodized frame without destroying the anodizing layer. Damaging that layer would trash the frame.

While it is unlikely that you are in this situation, it is easy to check for.

          Thanks for the feedback folks.

@unusedusername - As mentioned, my buddy had started to do the conversion, but did not finish it. However, the decocking lever is currently there, so I assume that the hole was indeed present.
