    Accuracy vs Precision

Been practicing with the Sig p226. All these shots were done standing 2-handed primary left-handed 10-round string at 7 yards. At least I'm precise, but don't have anyone to test my handgun for accuracy... Now, will get the same response, "too much trigger finger" or "gripping too hard"....

Also, is it rude to ask someone who is trying to help with your shooting to ask them to shoot your gun to test the accuracy? Can't find someone who wants to take up my offer...

Shoot it from a rest, but looks like you're consistently hitting a little high and to the right.

No it's not rude to ask someone to shoot your gun. This is actually a common trouble shooting step.

I was at an indoor range and the guy next to me kept plugging away with his gun, in front of his girlfriend/wife, but couldn't keep it under a 16" spread @ 7yds. He asked a range officer to try his gun to show the girl it wasn't his bad shooting. The RO picked it up and blew 6 rapid holes in a 2" spread, locked back the slide, and said "Nothing wrong with that"

          ^^^Ouch!

OP: Nothing wrong with asking someone. Just provide ammo. Start with a range officer. Great precision/groups by the way!

If you're up north, I'll shoot it.

We're you at field time last night? I had a guy like that next to me who was trying to impress his girlfriend, so sad....

Had that happen to a guy at Insight a few weeks ago, he was with 2 cute Asian chicks, he rented a 1911 and was trying to impress them, however, one of them was consistently out shooting him, it was fun to watch.....the cute Asian chicks shooting that is.

2" off at 7 yards is 8 mrad, so the sights would have to be noticeably off to explain it. Like, moving the rear sight off by more than a millimeter, which would be obvious to your eye. Could be the gun, but seems unlikely, more likely you're consistently doing something to drive the groupings up and to the right.

I try to promote using the shooting circle targets for diagnosing precise but inaccurate shooting. You can consistently make the same error and come out with great looking groups, but you'll never be a bullseye shooter until you fix your errors. If the gun hasn't had the sights taken off it's usually best to assume it shoots straight and you're the problem.

On my off days with my M11-A1 I tend to make a slight rolling anticipation motion which makes me shoot high right. It will just take discipline on my part to correct it.

That "too much finger, or gripping to hard" is a bunch of crap.. it's a diagnostic tool for shooting 1911's, one handed..

Your consistency is pretty good so I'm inclined to say that the sights are off.. I dont' think it's rude to ask someone.. I mean, it's just a question and if you're polite about it, then it's like asking for anything else..

Personally I hate shooting at bullseye's for diagnostic purposes.. I prefer to use 1 to 1.5 inch wide strips of tape. I place a long one vertically and then bisect it horizontally at the top and then at the bottom with shorter pieces. I can check verticality by simply shooting anywhere up or down along the tape.. Regardless of where I aim, all my shots should be equidistant from the center line.. That's how I know if it's me or the gun..

In your case, 5 targets that consistently show high/right is most likely the gun being off.. If you can, try running it at longer distances. If you're capable of being 'consistent' (ie precise) at the longer distances, this will make the difference even more obvious..

                            Good luck!
