2015: What revolvers should I buy?

I only got into handguns about a year ago and have completely ignored revolvers since SSE was happening. 2015 is going to be the year of the revolver for me and I have absolutely no idea where to start. I own only a single revolver: a Nagant that I ordered recently.

I know the Chiappa Rhino fascinates me and I will probably buy one if one of the shops I frequent is willing to SAE it. Beyond that I am lost.

Where is a guy to start? I love old and new, big and small, American and foreign weapons. I even love both high-end and cheap stuff. So that narrows it down...

I personally dislike Ruger's pistols aside from their 1911, but I know they're a major player in quality revolvers. Taurus also seems to be a company that does revolvers better than pistols. Is that correct?

Really any advice is appreciated. Even the model numbers of S&W revolvers make my head spin.

    Thanks for any pointers.

2015: What revolvers should I buy?

Dude, reading your thread is worse than talking to my wife when she's pissed. You need to shoot them and decide what you like best. There is no one right answer or is this the best here.

Me, I shoot Smiths and they are first for me. But I shoot many, send a few hundred down range and the I decide on my favorites and what is sold to fund another.

I know there's no right answer, FB. And I will rent before I buy. But when pistol shopping in California I have found that renting has been of pretty limited use, particularly with the lack of off-roster guns at the range. If I relied on rentals, I probably would have bought a Glock as my first pistol, and lo and behold I actually dislike them after buying and trying some less than mainstream pistols.

Can you elaborate on why a Colt Python? I know they are legendary, but why? And why 3 inches? Thanks.

Cuz a 3 inch Python will cost you a kidney....shoot some S&W's and see what you like....I suggest one big boy (460, 500, 454), they're totally impractical, but fun.

Personally, I'll be going after Troopers, Snakes, and a Stealth Hunter once 2015 hits

                S&W 686 4" or Ruger GP100 4"
One of these will take care of all your revolver needs.

i'm a fan of the older S&W pre-lock revolver. just about any S&W 4" K-frame pre-lock would be a nice start to your revolver collection.

I agree with 357magnum's comment above. A S&W 686 or a Ruger GP100 is a great place to start. But, there are so many choices. Have fun shopping!

I hear a lot of references to "pre-lock" and "pre-dash." Is there a particular reason for this? Is the lock in question like a safety?

And am I correct in understanding those can shoot either .357 or .38 and are pretty good for range and HD but would be a larger carry piece?

Good start would be a Ruger Single Six convertible 22lr/22mag for a single action and S&W Model 66 or Model 19 357mag for a double action.
