    Looking for a 9mm

Most guns I have owned lately have been expensive calibers and/or haven't even shot them and wanted to consolidate to 9mm. This will mainly be a range/hd gun and would prefer a fullsize all metal gun. Any interesting choices I should consider? I was considering stuff along the lines like a beretta m9a1, cz sp01, cz 75, 1911 9mm etc..don't particularly want a sig but maybe there are some nice shooting ones? I know I said all metal but was also considering the cz p07. Should I consider hk as well? My budget is probably around 800-1k. Thanks!

I landed a sig STS p226 all steel and couldn't be happier.

1911 in 9mm is fun to shoot but you'll need good mags. I see a few guys in competition shooting CZs with good reliability.

In the order of my suggestion:

          1) 1911 9mm
          2) Sig P226
          3) CZ SP-01

Im not too fond of 1911s in 9mm. I'd vote for the CZsp01, and don't discount the Sig 226.

But if you want something truly unique go with the M9 with a SGS compensator, not good for home defense at night but a great range toy.

How is reliability with the 9mm 1911s?

I shoot SA loaded and RO in a mini IDPA style match once a month. Both have feed issues during rapid fire. A day a the range is 100% fun if I am shooting slower. Again good mags are an absolute must. Avoid Metalform mags if you end up getting one in 9mil. Wilson and Rob Leatham SA mags with no spacer in the back are reliable but hold 9 rnds. I have a Walther p99 German made and I couldn't get it to malfunction if that is something you might be interested in. You could always get someone to tune a 1911 for you.

I love shooting my cheap a@@ Sig SP2022.

                    It shoots great.
I have a few pistols and I shoot the Sig the best.

                      My Springfield 9mm 1911 is 100% reliable.

My STI edge has issues with slide hold back on empty magazines. The mags have to be absolutely clean or the weak STI stock mag spring will not get the job done. The edge however is way easier to shoot as the bull barrel decreases muzzle flip and recoil. The STI also has a better trigger.

                      Both are similar accuracy wise.

                      The Springfield looks better IMHO.

That said the sig 226 has many (all) features you want in a hand gun. It's easier to disassemble than a 1911. They come with a decocker, they are DA/SA, they have rails, and they can handle hi cap magazines. Most come with night sights. They aren't as easy to shoot as a 1911, at least not for me, but it's still better than a Berretta, but they are very very close.

                      Something to think about.

I almost forgot about the 3rd gen s&w's! What fullsize 9mm models are there?

Get a Lionheart, man. It's a full-size metal frame, it has a unique action (delayed blowback with rollers and a third trigger setting with the weight of SA and the travel of DA), it looks freaking beautiful, and it's simply outstanding quality. Get it in BROWN and you'll have something unlike any other pistol. Do a search for "Daewoo pistol" (the Lionheart is the jazzed-up American market version of Daewoo) and you will find hundreds of people claiming the Daewoo is the best gun they've ever had.

My second choice would be an EAA Witness Elite Match, but personally I'd find it wasteful to get that chambered in 9mm.

Sphinx SDP also if you don't mind spending close to $1k. They do make and sell a full-size metal version. You'd have to look around for it.

Here's the Lionheart LH9-MKII in brown:

^^^ On that... I love 3rd gen S&Ws. However, the Lionheart is a copied and improved version of that gun.
