1911 Gurus-conversion question-will this work, see pics please.

This is a gsg .22 conversion on a commanding officers frame. That's an officers top end on a commander frame, or so my research told me. The GSG is supposed to fit government and commander pistols, but not the officers model. The officers model has a 7 round mag, so these mags won't fit. I ordered it on a whim, and am wondering if this will affect function.

It strips a dummy round from the magazine, chambers it, and ejects it sharply. There does not appear to be any binding at the dust cover, or anywhere. The slide is aluminum.

    Ideas?

Just Shoot it what's the worst that can happen?

J/K seriously I have no idea if it will run like that safely, I have never seen a gap that big between a frame and a slide. I know it's just a 22lr but still, I personally wouldn't shoot it.

So the frame is an officers frame, and the slide is an officers slide or a gov/comm slide???

Your description is a bit confusing. Government is 5" and full size grip. Commander is a shorter frame (front to back) officers model is commander length (front to back) with shorter grip. Commander and officer frames should interchange slides. Government slide will not interchange with commander/officer slide. That's the combo that you have Shown and it is not correct. It may function but it may batter your frame near the barrel lug. Check it out really close but I wouldn't risk damaging a frame with incorrect parts. YMMV

No, it's not an officers frame. It's a full size grip, 8 round capacity pistol, with an officers slide. Commanding officer model. I knew it was a full sized grip, but the dust cover length was never important to me, until now. I looked online and thought I confirmed that it is a commander sized frame, but I think it's shorter in the dust cover, as this kit is supposed to fit commander frames, too.

I know, it's a limited edition factory gun, with a full sized grip mated to an officers slide. The frame length is what is puzzling. It's suppsed to be a commander sized frame, from what I read on line. But it's clearly shorter, since this kit is supposed to fit commander sized frames.

What's the factory barrel length on your original slide?

The Cmdr frame is a wee bit shorter than the GM, by about the amount of the gap on your set up. (Amazing!) The only real function of the dust cover, other than keeping out dust, is to keep the standard (non-guide rod) recoil spring from spronging out of the gun.

I don't see any reason why this set up would be less safe, and should work just fine. I'd shoot it without any reservation.
