Is Glock going to continue to produce Gen 3 pistols for the near future? With the SSE going away should we be worried about the availability of Glocks in CA?

Gen 3 Glock Production

If there is enough demand, and a good enough profit to be made, they will continue.
Realistically, CA's demand is artificial for the Gen3, because we have no choice. You do not see them still making Gen2's just for fun. Nor are they making the off colors, those are Lipsyey's contract runs, so it's worth it.
They will stop one day when the numbers people go, it's not worth producing anymore.
If they push innovation to a single stack, modularization, rifles, there is not point of keeping the production line at the Gen3.Comment

Glocks are probably one of the best selling guns left on the roster so I'd be surprised if Glock gave up on California.
Population of California is 38.5 million and to understand how big this number is consider these other locations:
- population of Austria 8.5 million
- population of Canada 35 million
I bet Glock sells more gen 3 pistols in California than they sell their entire line in other countries!Comment

I read earlier this year that Glock was quoted off record by an industry source (sorry, can't remember who) as stating that production of the Gen 3 pistols could end as early as 2015. Since that time no one has backed up the statement that I can see.
With Gen 4 production running full steam and Glock undoubtedly looking at their next step, I have to assume that the Gen 3 pistols are going to disappear sooner rather than later. No company keeps three production lines open for almost identical product.
Not stating that they are going away next year. Just saying that the clock is ticking."A vote is like a rifle; it's usefulness depends upon the character of the user." - Theodore RooseveltComment

Not sure, but I better cash in my GSSF discount coupon soon then!
But realistically, since most of the internals are the same for Glocks, and the Gen4 only has some trigger assembly differences, it would be likely that Gen3 internal parts will be made for decades to come, given the number of Glocks out there.
So the frames are different, and the slides, I guess are different to take the RSA for the Gen4s.
Frames, I can imagine Glock churns them out easily (injection molded plastic, right?) and slides just have a different RSA hole in them I think.
Now, if I were in charge of marketing at Glock, and given the non-popularity/acceptance of the Gen4 for many people, I'd keep the few required Gen3 parts coming, since again, the insides are pretty much the same for all generations.==================

I love Glocks but if the day comes when they stop production on Gen 3, roll out Gen 4 with mag disconnect for the general public, is the day I stop buying Glock.
friends don't let friends own guns with mag disconnect!

If you listen to this episode of the Shooter's Mindset podcast:
You'll hear Bob Vogel, who is sponsored by Glock, say that Glock intends to keep production of the Gen3 going. He doesn't say for how long, but I doubt even Glock knows what the future holds.
Sales are good, so they're not going to upset the applecart for the near term. After that, there's no way of knowing

From a business model perspective it's not sound to continue two different production lines when the demand for Gen 4 far exceeds the demand for Gen 3. There is no business case to keep both in production. The Macro level is world wide distribution and California is not a factor. It's just a blip on the radar compared to world wide sales. I expect this is the last year for Gen 3 production.28 May 2021 CCW Application Submitted

Rest easy. The gun won't pass microstamping requirements, so won't be available to general public in California.Comment

I'm in Arizona all the time. All I see are gen 4s on shelves. Yes gen 3s are avail. But more so the new line.
I'm assuming CA is the only state with gun shops only stocking gen 3s only because that's all we can get."If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas JeffersonComment
