Xds too tight

There are numerous videos on techniques for racking a stiff slide on youtube. I have 2 XDs's (9 and 45) that I bought as slim carry pistols. While they are great carry guns, the trigger and (especially) the mag release are terrible, IMHO). On the .45, I recently installed a spring/sear kit, as well as an extended mag release from Powder River Precision. A significant improvement in both functions. The only bummer is that I can't do the same on the 9mm, as it's one of the guns on my CCW permit (OCSD specifically does not allow trigger mods).

+1 on the trigger mod from powder river precision. Makes a huge difference. If it's not gonna be a CCW, or your IA allows moded guns on the license, get one! Easy to install with a few basic tools, and a YouTube video.

Is it normal for a new polymer gun to be tight as ****

When I got my 1911, I don't remember it's even this tight. I mean you really have to put an effort to rack the slide or even release the mag.

My wife, who can operate the 1911 normally, is putting a lot of muscle to operate this mini.

Which XDS: 9mm or 45ACP; 4" or 3.3"?

What is your definition of "tight"?


My 4" 9mm XDS is not tight. I wouldn't even consider the spring to be too strong.

You didn't mention if you had the 3.3 or the 4 inch. I've got the 3.3 in 9mm. It's not that the slide fit is actually tight. It' that the short gun has a hell of a recoil spring in it. It is, hands down, the hardest gun to rack that I own. It doesn't bother me too much but if you're a woman or anyone with weak hand strength, I can certainly see where it would be challenging. There's not really much you can do about it given that it's inherent to the gun being so short. Hopefully it will loosen up a little over time.

My new XDS was tight as all getgo, in fact I had to release the slide lock to load, as pulling the slide all the way back & releasing did not give enough spring to load.

But now that I've put ~100 rounds through it, slide-release loading works great!

I could not get the slide stop released on my XDS 3.3 9mm. A friend had a similar problem with a Glock sub-compact and fixed it with an extension. I went looking for one and found this one from pistol gear:
PistolGear Slide stop.
I put it on, trivially easy to do, and it was like a new pistol. Thoroughly pleased with it now.

You can't help but love this...... great job!!! Please put out the schematics and diagrams and such please, if you can. A true talent.

I have 2 Xd 9's and are my favorite guns but without a doubt, take the most force to rack. My wife to this day cannot lock the slide back. What she can do however is load a mag and sling shot a round into battery. She shoots the xd well. Have your wife try that method. Also, worth mentioning, my wife has no issue racking my M9 or my P95 but she prefers shooting the xd
