    FFL screws up DROS: Updated

I have purchased a few pistols this year from my favorite FFL and everything has been smooth up until now.

When I picked up the pistol A that was DROS'ed last month, I filled out the paperwork for pistol B. Fast forward to a week later, I receive a call from someone at the shop saying that they would start the DROS for pistol B.

I asked them were they sure because, I received an email stating my pickup date was Oct 15 (which would make the DROS date the 5th). Since I was out, there was no way to check the paperwork. Unknown to me, the DROS was entered early and was rejected.

So I wait 10 days for pistol B. When I get to the shop (dumb me, should have called first) then I'm told my DROS was rejected because someone entered it early. I explained the situation and all sales people say its my fault that I failed to inform them when my 30 days were up. Keep in mind I was not told this at the time I filled out the paperwork!

So I paid another $25 for a second DROS and I have the paperwork in hand this time. I tried to voice my displeasure but nobody seemed to care. Before anyone says speak to the manager, they were not in.

I'll just remember this as a lesson learned and to keep tabs on the paperwork next time. There have been no previous paperwork issues so I'm not sure where the blame lies.

Since there went the final SSE slot, its a sign I should stop spending.

Edit: I emailed the owner regarding this issue.

Update: I received a reply from Steve. In short: since I failed to inform the staff of my 30 days it was my fault. There is nothing they can do at this point. Well I feel dumb for not noticing the signs of this nature.

Anyways, I paid the impound fee. Once I pickup my Sig in 10 days that will be the end of that. I doubt this will happen again next time.

Call them out all the way if you're doing it

Sounds like the FFL should have checked into it as you voiced concern that it might be too soon. Always safer to do paperwork on the day you are actually DROSing.

Unfortunately the pistol was not in stock at the time the paperwork was completed so there was no serial. IIRC no serial number, no DROS.

Oh well, nothing I can do now.

The FFL is too stupid to check the exact date on the first DROS?

All they had to do was pull up your DROS form and the 30 day cut off date will be listed to the date, hour, minute and second under:

          LATEST DELIVERY DATE/TIME

Which is exactly 30 days later.

You can avoid this by asking for a copy of the DROS when they submit it.

Then circle the date. But the FFL could pull up your record anytime to read that date.

          It's their fault.

When you DROS a handgun, the paperwork is time stamped with the date/time of when the 10 day waiting period is over. Below that is the 30 day date/time stamp telling you that the handgun has to be picked up before that date or you will have to start DROS over. I use that 30 day time stamp as my 1 in 30 because it actually list not only the date, but hour and minutes.

What I'm taking issue with is what I was told tonight: that it is my duty to inform the staff when my 30 days were up. I do not recall anyone telling me this at the time the paperwork was done!

Since all the other sales staff agreed with the one helping me, I was in no position to argue. Pay up or no pistol.

I'm reasonable but I did not like how this situation was handled.

Yes I understand. Issue was the items were not in stock and the FFL will DROS whenever they receive it (they order it, so they should know when it will be in).

A minor oversight on my part but lesson learned.

I had almost the exact thing happen earlier this year. I even argued with the FFL that it should be 30 days from start to start and he insisted I only need to wait 20 days from start to start because of the 10 day wait. I gave in and he DROSed the second gun.

You guessed it. It came back rejected as violating 1 in 30. Worse yet the FFL was embarrassed didn't call me to tell me it was rejected till I showed up for the pick up. As a result of how the dates fell by the time we re-DROSed and I did the 10 days the next gun on my list had fallen off the roster.

                      Ouch that sucks!

Since it was DROS today, I have 1 last SSE slot instead of 2.

Ummm... I'm very confused, how did they begin paperwork without you present to sign the forms??? This does not make sense.
