ASP style see through grips

Why hasn't anyone else incorporated the see-through grip concept from the ASP? It seems like a no-brainer for single stack magazines but other than the ASP I've never seen it done. I picked up a P64 from Turners on sale and since it already has skeletonized magazines I'm considering taking a stab at cutting the standard grips and inserting a clear lexan panel to get the same effect. I'm getting a second set of grips just in case this goes totally wrong but if it works I think it'll be pretty awesome. Have y'all seen this done anywhere else? Any other cons besides the possibility of lint getting in the backup mags?

I'd love to see what how it comes out, but I'm way more interested in the ASP gutter sights. I think it was an ingenious idea that should have been incorporated in other small combat pistols.

We had an original even more rare STEEL framed ASP in the shop. It went for a pretty penny to someone everyone in the gun world knows.
Great part was the wife and I took it out and put a couple hundred rounds through it, with the owners permission of course. I mean we had to be sure it worked first right? Very cool gun, lots of very innovative features.

I'll contact Stinger and see what a custom set of stocks for the P-64 will cost, the gun was less than $300 so I don't want to spend $100. I'm looking forward to testing my gunsmith skills anyhow. I picked up the gun from Turner's tonight so this weekend I'll start on the rough sketches. I like that he mags are already skeletonized so I don't have to cut those as well, just need to match the grip cutout to it. Then figure out how thick the plexiglass/lexan should be and then how to glue it in place properly. I'm thinking that it may need a small shelf to sit on but we'll see as the project progresses. Does anyone have a source for cheap replacement stocks for WHEN I foul up the first couple of trys?
