My LGS is DROS'ing stripped AR lowers as SSE pistols

I was under the impression this was not possible in CA to buy a stripped lower receiver and register it as a pistol because it is not on the roster nor is it a complete firearm to SSE. The lowers are aero precision marked "pistol". They told me since the lower is marked "pistol" this is legal

Iv had 2 friends buy lowers, wait the 10 days, and the DROS cleared.

Also on the DROS form it does say Handgun type "exempt" and under "Frame/receiver" it is marked "yes"

    Is DOJ making errors?

No neither of them are. They have a whole cabinet full of these lowers as well. I almost jumped on one because their DROS cleared but I am still hesitant

Barrel length is left empty and under caliber it's marked "000" since it is a "frame/reciever" only firearm.

It was $150 out the door for the lowers. Do not want to post the name of LGS on an open forum in case they are doing something wrong or DOJ is making errors and corrects then because if this thread.

What the CA FFL dealer is doing is illegal and can be discovered if they are audited.

The CA FFL dealer can lose their FFL and the people that received the effected firearms may receive letters from CA DOJ asking them to surrender the firearms.

If they have spare pistol uppers to put them on while dosing it should be g2g tho, right?

I've never heard of this being done. It's always been complete pistols whether SSE or PPT. Being that this seems to be the ONLY place doing it...and that there are dozens of opportunistic FFLs in SoCal that would gladly do it if it was legit...I'd guess that it's not legit.

You can do it as long as the pistol is complete and fully built before they take delivery.
In other words, letting them start DROS and bring in their upper and build up the lower on pick up day.

The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Yes, that is what I have been seeing. Some dealers deliver the gun with "their" upper as a rental, or with a deposit that is refunded upon presentation of the buyer's components to replace the "temporary" SSE rendition.

I don't see how they can legally get around the safe handling demonstration.
