    First time buyer

This anarcho-capitalist didn't want to vote for politicians at all. So I voted for Austria! Bought my first hand gone today. Never shot the 34 glock but had disposable income and picked up a new one.

Hint for the first time buyers. Don't read into it too much. That was my case for 2-3 weeks.

Nice gun. If you did not vote today, you are part of the problem.

Thanks, I am now a labeled hipster. But seriously, I've been reading way too much mises.org and zerohedge.com which are both great websites such as this one (if in moderation). Second point, I did participate by voting today. I'm only equivocating because I know that we have governor moonbeam for more years now, sad.

I don't want to be off topic anymore so if you guys have opinions on gun safes I'm off to searching the forums. Thinking about that Costco 59" fire safe. Thanks guys!

Negative. That probably can't be good for reproductive reasons (the tight jeans not the beard).

Very novice question here. The wise contacts tell me I should have purchased the gun safe when I made the purchase. I didn't do so.

Will I be forced to buying a safe when I pick up the glock 34? I checked out the safe threads and in CA you need an Affidavit Stating Ownership of an Acceptable Gun Safe or Lock Box? What craziness is that?

Which leads me to another question equally as novice. I didn't notice what goodies would come with the glock. I think I get two mags and probably some owner's manual, perhaps a user's manual if I'm lucky. Do new purchases ever come with extras like a barrel lock?

Quick answer: Negative on the safe (assuming you purchased new from the shop). You're pistol will come with a lock but it doesn't lock the barrel, it locks the action.

eta: Do yourself a favor and spend some time reading here: The Calguns Foundation Wiki

It really does lay out many of the basic questions you might have in a thorough fashion.

You're questions specifically, as they relate to locks at purchase and storage afterward can (mostly) be answered here: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Bu...s_are_required

Locks or safety devices are required

                      Penal Code 23635 (was 12088.1)

                      (a) Any firearm sold or transferred in this state by a
licensed firearms dealer, including a private transfer through a
dealer, and any firearm manufactured in this state, shall include or
be accompanied by a firearm safety device that is listed on the
Department of Justice's roster of approved firearm safety devices and
that is identified as appropriate for that firearm by reference to
either the manufacturer and model of the firearm, or to the physical
characteristics of the firearm that match those listed on the roster
for use with the device. ...
                      and storage here: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Storage_and_Children

                      Storage and Children

California has established a crime 'criminal storage of a firearm' related to children, persons under 18, gaining unauthorized access to firearms.
The crime does not apply if access is gained through illegal entry, or if the firearms owner has no reasonable expectation that children will be present.
There is no other requirement to lock up a firearm. There is no requirement to store ammunition separately from firearms.
2014 brings an addition to PC 25100, adding 'criminal storage of a firearm in the third degree'.

Here's what the lock will look like, more or less. Remember the test you had to take to get a Safety Certificate in order to purchase? That should've told you how to lock the action. BTW, you will/should be asked to demonstrate loading/unloading and locking of the action when you go to pick up, so might want to review the booklet again.

congrats, and welcome to the forum. when doing research, it's not a bad thing when answers create more questions. but don't research yourself into a state of utter confusion; get the information you need and proceed accordingly.
