the magazine wells are different between the two. maybe the 9 and .40 can interchange, but the 9 and 45 can not.

there is no XD-S 40... there's been talk - but they aren't available

I would not mind a 4" or 5", 40 caliber for my 3.3" 9mm.

It will not happen for a long time. There are finally some XD slides available, never seen a M series slide available.

On the back of the holster that comes with the gun it says "for xd9, xds40, xds45" it just hasn't been released yet.

They've said that on the holsters since the XDs 45 was released. I wouldn't hold my breath, although it would seem a .40 version would be the logical next release.

I have both in 3.3. I can try it later if you need, but as the previous comment. The mag well is different in size.
