    Roster to fall away?

    I just visited my LGS.
I was inquiring about an off roster .22 semi auto (Ruger MKx) and lamenting over the fact that I would need to do a PPT purchase.
The fellow behind the desk said not to be in too much of a hurry as he has heard from reliable sources that the Roster could be falling away next year.

This fellow is not some student but a well respected person in the industry.

He also told me not to be in too much hurry to get my HSC as there would probably be a new one next year covering both handgun and long gun.

I am new to this all, don't know if this is can of worms or has been beaten to death before but figured I would just share.

After the first of the year the HSC will change to the Firearms safety card. This new card will cover both long guns and handguns. If you have a valid HSC you will still be able to use this to get handguns but not long guns.

As for the roster. There is a case going through the court right now.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.
Incoming fire has the right of way.

        1. It is all speculation at this point. I highly doubt that the whole Roster extortion scheme will simply go away. I am sure it will be ressurected in some form or another.

        2. If you don't get an HSC now, you won't be able to purchase a handgun next year. It is almost a waste since you will need the Firearm Safety Card in order to buy a long gun when that takes effect next year which almost makes the HSC useless unless you don't plan on buying a long gun.

I've been saying the roster will die, concealed carry will open up, and the 10 day wait will eventually die since right after the Heller v. DC decision -and of course I've been flamed for it.

None of that is happening as quickly as we'd like it to but I still do believe those things will happen. I don't know about next year, but I do think in the next 2-5 years the roster will face some very serious legal battles, and I don't think it'll survive it.

Ruger and S&W pulling out of CA with their handguns is not just out of pure frustration with CA DOJ -I believe it's an obvious plot to build causation and amass ammunition in a future court case -and it may very well be a "Smith & Wesson/Ruger v. Kamala Harris" that brings this down.

Not likely in the next year, but I think 5 years from now the roster may very well be a horrid memory from the past.

Roster case, Pena v Cid, has been fully briefed (after 5 years) and we are in the phase where we're waiting for the decision. So, any day now the decision can come out.

Just remember: (1) we don't know whether the decision will go our way; (2) this is only a District Court, so whoever loses is likely to appeal; (3) there is no limit on how long a judge can take to issue a ruling.

Half a dozen posts and you stroll in here to say the roster is dead?

                      Pure FUD, nothing less.

There is no legislative effort currently underway to end the roster.

There is a judicial effort in the Pena v Cid case. The decision is still pending. Unless your LGS source has advance knowledge of the decision, it's still an unknown which way it will go.

Now I'm confused. The LGS said to wait until next year, pay $25 only once and have a certificate that covers both hand guns and long guns.

You are saying that if I don't get an HSC this year then I wont be able to get a handgun next year?

I don't think it's possible for anyone to proclaim that kind of prediction right now with so much certainty. Maybe he did hear something from someone that thinks that. I hope it's correct, but honestly what can anyone know that we don't right now that changes the legal battlefield?

Sorry, I meant you will not be able to purchase until you get the Firearm Safety Card next year. With the SSE going out soon, you may want to just pay the fee if you want to pick one up.
