Commander-sized 1911s in 9mm

Just stopped off at my local gun shop (in San Jose, CA.) at lunch yesterday and asked about 9mm 1911s.
According to the gun shop guys, due to fairly recent California regulations, I can't even get any of the current crop of 9mm 1911s!!!

According to the shop guy, to be sold in California, the pistols have to have a magazine disconnect AND pass a drop test. Since 1911s don't have a magazine disconnect, that pretty much takes care of that.

Only pistols that were already being sold in California prior to the new rules can be sold. So, it looks like I'm stuck...
Any suggestions???

Thought SA has a 9mm available - Lets check the list.


ETA - Fullsize and the EMP, nothing in commander size.

On to the seconadary market - Used.

Practical advice

You might have to buy your 1911 in .45 caliber, or get a 9mm in some other design besides a 1911. The CA gun laws make us do things we would not ordinarily do.

Stop looking for a brand new gun. There are plenty of used 9mm 1911's out there.

There are currently no Commander sized 9mm available new. You can get an EMP or the full size loaded from Springfield. Kimber has a full sized target model.

My thanks to you all who replied and gave suggestions/recommendations!

I will check both the used market and investigate other possibilities for either a .45 ACP 1911 or an alternate pistol.

The only choice is 38super.

You can get in line for a Kimber 38super HD Pro 4in barrel.

Once you get it, send it back to Kimber and they will re-chamber it for you.

Or you can get a Bar-Sto barrel in 9mm.

Whoa!!! $1,400? You really, really gotta want a Colt to pay that much for a 9mm shooter!

Barnwood Arms is a fair drive away.
Probably will give the good folks at the new Gun Vault in Mountain View a try. (They're only ~ a 15 min. drive away...)
