Shipping a pistol

A while back i had a thread going about my new gp100 fixed sight pistol that shot way to low . from the advice i got from everyone i shot it a lot more to get good groups before trying to file down the sights . I can get nice groups with it now 3 inch at 25 yards my wife can shoot a bit smaller groups with it then me but its still about a foot low .

Last time at the range a local gun smith was thier and talking to be and he said that ruger should cover the low shooting under warranty on a fixed sight pistol and that i should get ahold of them . So i called them and they told me to sip them the pistol and they would factory sight it in to what ever grain weight, and bullet type i wanted for free but that it would take 8 to 9 weeks.

So my question is do you think it is worth sending to them to fix with such a long wait or just do it myself and get it done with a lot sooner ? And how do i ship it to them they gave the address but not if i should use fed ex or ups .and does it need to go through a dealer shipping it to them or them shipping it back to me ?

UPS overnight next day air saver (afternoon delivery instead of *** crack of dawn). They can ship direct to your house when it is repaired.

Yes, has to be overnight air and it's spendy...I just send my 642-1 to Gemini Custom yesterday Fed-Ex: $65.00!!

I recommend UPS Next Day Air Saver becuause it's the cheapest method for shipping a handgun.

Did you ask if Ruger would cover the shipping? If it's a warranty issue shouldn't they cover shipping to and from.

I just got my revolver back from S&W. I had an out-of-spec b/c gap. I bought the gun used and even though S&W website notes that they do not warranty if you buy them used. They paid for the shipping both ways and replaced the barrel for free. I shipped it on sept 10 and got it back today sept 30. I think S&W has great custmer service but shouldn't Ruger cover the shipping for warranty repairs?

they did not say if they would or would not cover shipping not very worried about that i just had never shipped a gun from cali before and did now know what was involved .

still debating weather or not to send it at all sense simply filing down the front sight is easy enough to do myself .When i called them i actually had to leave a message with my email address this is the response they emailed me . I just realized they dont actually say they will fix it under warranty did not see that befor that what i get for reading stuff when i sleepy after working the grave yard shift lol.

Kahr paid shipping both ways and installed a new barrel on a virtually new pistol. They offered to pay the shipping........if they hadn't, I sure would have asked.......er.............FORCEFULLY.

Ruger does not pay shipping back to them. They will pay to ship the gun back to the owner. You can ask until you're blue in the face but if it isn't a recall or a known problem, they won't pay to ship for warranty work.

Gun does not have to go through an FFL for shipment if it's going to an FFL (factory, Gunsmith, etc.).

Have you tried a heavier grain bullet? A fixed sight gun will only be spot on for one grain of bullet and Ruger .357's are generally set for 158gr. bullets. Lighter bullets will hit lower and heavier will hit higher.

I think ive only shot 125 gr of 2 or 3 different brands ill get some 158gr i think the walmart here sells cci brass in 158 gr and try them. forgive my ignorance but why would the heavier bullet hit higher i kind of thought that it would be even lower ?

I know it sounds exactly opposite of what you'd normally think is right and I wish I could explain it. Give the 158's a try and see what you think, they're easier on the gun too but a GP will never care one way or the other.

I think since the heavier bullets move slower, they leave the barrel when recoil has force it to a higher point of aim.
