How does a Dan Wesson Specialist Compare

I'm looking to pick up a nicer 1911 while I still can. Been looking at DW. I'll get my wife the bobtail Guardian in 9. Figured I'd get a 45 even though I really like the 1911 in 9. The Specialist caught my eye and from what I read rates very well. But....how does it rate to the other higher end offerings. I've read that DW is equivalent to pieces twice their price?

What do you folks think that have them. I guess I'm looking for confirmation that it's a good buy or maybe even point me in a different direction.

    Thanks for any input

can't go wrong with a DW. I have the Black Duty Valor, CCO, and a Black Duty VBOB waiting to be DROS'd. Love them.

Check out the Dave Severns Shootout & you be the judge. The Specialist is pretty similar to the Valor.

Introduction: Welcome to the Severns Custom 2011 “Thunder In The West Shoot-Out! Before I get started, a few notes and house-keeping details. First, as with past shoot-outs, please understand that this article will include a lot of photo and video insertions, and typing. As such, due to photo...

      Thanks for the info!

WoW! That's one heck of a write up......

Would have been nice to compare to some different brands/models in the same price category whatever that would be instead of 3 different brands with 2 models.

Its killing me hoping I get a good 'bang for the buck' purchase as its a considerable amount of coin when you factor in the wife's purchase too. I realize there are more expensive choices out there but I also have close to a dozen 1911s that are under the ~1200 mark which work great for what they are. It seems that when you mention DW 1911 people always say you get a great product with the purchase......

I just picked a SS Specialist and let me tell you it is the best trigger you can get. Everything about it is perfect.

Can't speak about the Specialist, but I think your wife will love the Guardian.

DW's are the best production 1911's for the money. Production 1911 price point with quality that's almost comparable to semi-customs. Once you rack the slide and squeeze the trigger you'll love it.

Although stiffer than my X-five the trigger on my DW Valor still feels pretty good. I haven't shot it yet to determine which I like better, but it's probably going to be second to the X-five.

Absolutely love my Specialist. I highly recommend it, just have some loctite in case the magwell comes loose.
