The smaller the gun, the more things have to be squeezed into a smaller place---including the recoil spring/recoil assembly---so the spring has a shorter usable life---so replace more often---this is pretty much the same with all smaller pistols...

Springfield EMP problems? (2014)
Collapse

Yes. I've had one in 9mm for quite a few years. Works great. Never an issue. Unless you count a broken grip screw, and the rear sight set screw working itself loose (on different occasions). But those were easy fixes. Call to Springfield and the parts were in my hand a few days later. Not the first time I've had minor issues with cosemetic stuff on new guns.
It's accurate, reliable and fun to shoot.
Buy it!!! Shoot it!!!Sorry, not sorry.

I have fired tons of FMJ (nothing over 124 gr however) thru mine and it has eaten them all up with no problems. Honestly, I cannot remember any fail to fire/eject or stovepipes. Just smooth upon smooth, upon smooth.
PMC, UMC, federal, blazer brass, lawman, fiocchi, S&B, I'm sure there are more, I just can't remember them.
I don't shoot reloads (yet) so I can't speak about reliability of those.Sorry, not sorry.

Yeah, i know i know.. I was just being lazy. I trust you guys too much.Rather than get the answer from the forum members (and we all know that all of us are honest as the day is long and would never pull an answer from our hind quarters) why not contact Springfield and ask them the question directly?
What round count a 3" 1911 in 45 from SA vs Kimber vs the EMP in 9mm/40 constitutes suggested recoil spring replacement is best left to the guys that design that particular gun.
I'm not trying to be a wise*** here, just saying why not get the suggested maintenance from the factory?
