Looking for a cheap sd pistol

Im an engineering student and i just recently moved into a shady neighborhood in southern california. There are young guys outside of their houses when i get home from work/school, or when im leaving, or when i go outside to let my dogs out. Ive even been confronted by one. I have about a $200 dollar ceiling and im looking for a self defense pistol, just in case one of these stupid kids tries to break into the house or does something stupid. I realize thats pretty low but thats what i have. The best i could come up with is a makarov.

edit: for the record im not looking to shoot gangbangers, its more to scare them off or get them to desist while i call the cops.

Save some more money, get a Glock. Or ... A Hipoint for around 200.

Save your money and move out of that neighborhood. If $200 is your ceiling for a handgun, a lawyer is going to cost you a lot more when you get yourself in trouble.

HiPoint C9, you will have just enough for tax, DROS and ammo with $200. It is a well regarded value pistol.

Never fire a warning shot unless you want to go to jail. Never brandish the pistol unless you would be justified in using it to kill someone.

Hipoint! Or a maverick 88 shotgun! No need to get a makarov, you can get a new, reliable firearm for that.

              I'd get a $200 Mossberg Maverick 12G for HD.

This guy fired a warning shot.

I'm sure it didn't help him when the DA was deciding whether to prosecute him or not.

Please note that his guy is a rich doctor and you are broke college kid. The cops will throw your *** in jail until you accept an unfavorable plea bargain.

In terms of handguns the Hi Point is the only thing out there with common ammo. Common ammo is important so you can train for cheap and find different types of ammo easily.

Hi Points have lifetime warranties and in certain rare circumstances (like yours), I recommend them.

For a shotgun, the Mossberg Maverick 88 would do it.

Other option is to shop around your LGS and look for a used 870 or a used Glock. With the warranties of Remington and Glock, have no fear.

If you can save up a little more, the S&W Sigma series would do it.

Just keep in mind, the gun is not to intimidate anyone, it's to use. If homeboys see you flash a gun they'll just come back later with more homeboys, or they'll rat you out to the cops and you'll be facing charges. No one knows you have it till they're in your house and you're using it. We don't fire warning shots or flash guns to intimidate, we fire shots to stop the threat.

Having a gun is not an end to all situation. Life is not a movie where you flash a gun or shoot the bad guy, chicks come flying and everything is fine. There are legal consequences especially in CA and you have a lot to lose as a student.

Seems that way but as a responsible gun owner we need to look out for others.

They are giving you real scenarios in which it can happen.

I would hate to see a young guy get ruined by something that could of been avoided.

If you insist getting a gun, shotgun is the way to go.

You can walk out with one around $250 OTD.

Dick's had a special for a Stevens 320 tactical Shot gun with 50 rounds of Ammo for ~$240 with Tax and Dros.

If i were you I would have no shame in getting a Hi-Point. They are pretty reliable and accurate. The only real prob with them is they're just heavy and not pretty.

With Hi-Point you can get .380 or 9mm

For 280-ish you could hoook into the Smith and Wesson SD9VE or SD40VE. Both 9mm and 40S&W ammo is plentiful. The S&W is a really good gun too it's much lighter and it's kinda like a poor man's Glock but in most respects it is equal to the Glock in quality and performance. Trigger is really the only big drawback.
