    Recommendations on a lefty-friendly sub-compact

I'm looking for a sub-compact pistol to carry while fishing. What I'm look for is:

    - 9mm, but I'm not absolutely set on this caliber.
    - Slim. I'm not concerned as much about length or height as much as the width
    - Lightweight and polymer. This pistol will get wet on occasion, so the less metal the better.
    - I'd prefer a manual safety if possible, but it has to be left-hand friendly
    - A lefty friendly mag release is nice, but not necessary since I don't plan on carrying an extra mag while fishing. It would be nice to have for training and range time though.
    - Reliable. There is a good chance that this pistol will get wet on occasions, so I need something that will work when dirty and wet.
    - Bonus points if it's on roster so I can save a SSE slot for something more fun

Currently I'm considering the Walther PPS and the M&P Shield. The PPS doesn't have an external safety and the Shield's safety is not lefty friendly. I like the idea of the grip safety on the XDs, but I've also read not so flattering comments about the XDs and I'm little concerned about how the grip safety will react to water and dirt.

    Suggestions anyone? Thanks!

M&P 9 Compact with a thumb safety? It's not slim but not too thick either. I think it's off-roster though.

The xd series works just fine. Unless you're constantly dunking your gun in muddy water the gun will function fine.

Also if you dont care about an external safety a glock 26 is great. Im left handed and it takes less than a second to drop mags with my left middle finger.
But if you wanted a truly left handed gun you could just get a snubby revolver.

No worries on the XD grip safety. It's manually operated. Even if it is all muddy, your hand power should be enough to to move mud around if there is anything in it. All it does is move out of the way so the sear can move.

If the gun is all muddy, the striker channel (true for all striker guns), will probably be blocking the firing pin from moving with enough force, so please clean after mud/dirt test for duty use.

I think the new Colt Mustang (polymer) have a manual ambi (.380 though).

The xds has a true ambidextrous mag release.

if you really want the safety over ambi mag release, a sig p938 might fit the bill.
