cosmetic damage only? <update post 26>

Last night I noticed this dent on the right hand side above the feedramp. Since it's not in contact with the bullet I'm thinkin it's only cosmetic but looking for some input.

    It's a bersa thunder .380.

    Thanks.

I wasn't sure what you were talking about when I looked at the first picture.

I'm glad the second one cleared it up for me.

It looks cosmetic to me. I would shoot it if it functioned properly. I would like to see it in person you can only tell so much from a picture. I am not a gun smith or an expert.

What is that huge dent in the barrel hood approx at the 2 o'clock position? That don't look right.

That's what this post is about. I wasn't aware of the proper vocabulary (barrel hood).

I'm with Skosh. That's a dent in the exterior of the chamber. The chamber, as we all know is where the magic happens, so, looking at that picture, the rear of the chamber is compromised, and since the cause is unknown, it could get worse by shooting it. It looks to be cosmetic, but without closer inspection it's impossible to tell. Unless you have a good loupe and know what to look for, I wouldn't shoot that.

Roger that...I think even I'm wrong, read the post below....he's an actual gunsmith! Regarding your feedramp, you do have a little bit of a ding at the very bottom, so you're not far off.

I think we're all looking at this? We call that a "chuke". I'd keep an eye on that.

Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...

Fixed barrel? Is so, than no real lock up to worry about.

Maybe the barrel to slide was not perfectly in line, and one too many taps. The softer metal lost a chunk or a very poorly forged barre steel. Look at the slide if there are any unusual mark/dent as well. Damage is done, anything it self fitted to itself on firing .

People jewel, sand, and polish barrel hoods all the time to no ill effect, but that is not a chunk on the rear.

Would ask Bersa to take a look if it is still under warranty.

I would not fire that pistol again. If it's under warranty, send it back to Bersa for service. If not, take it to a gunsmith.

Yes, but if that was my pistol I would be more concerned about HOW that happened and it getting worse during operation. That's why I wouldn't shoot it again.
