    92fs or p226

    Hey guys,

I have decide to pick up a 9mm for learning to shoot. Esp. since ill be attending the academy i need to prepare for their range sessions.

My goal is to shoot 3rds at 25yards and hit a man sizes target within the 7ring. Not to hard, right? Here;s the catch!! YOU GOT 5 SEC FROM HOLSTER.

SO YES please give advice which one should i get and practice one. Because my department issues beretta. So should i just get the p226?

Have you shot any of them?

I'd stick with the 92FS, because you want the gun to feel natural to you...especially when it's dept. issued.

I had tried both and sig 226 will be my pick. But that just me, you really have to try them up before you make your decision.

I feel you should practice with the same pistol model that you'll use if you're life depended on it. Since your department issues Berettas then buy a Beretta for practice. Although its fun to have some variety in what you shoot...maybe get both?

Won't be the gun, it will be the shooter.

Both are good. Go with the Sig P226.

I owned both - sold my Sig within 2 months - just not my cup of tea... (don't want to piss any off Sig-fan here)...

Keep in mind, the grip on 92 is bigger than 226.

I've had both but sold the 92f a long time ago. As has been previously stated, go with what you'll be issued unless they'll let you use the Sig in training/on duty.

my department has a very short list of approved guns. Most of them are revolvers. Another option they allow us to use in the academy and on duty would be the HK P2000. I played with the gun but have not shot it. But the barrel is only 3.9" So i dont know would i want that for 25yards accuracy.

After the academy we are approved to carry HK USP45. So ill get that for sure as a duty gun.

I have small hands so the beretta never fit perfect. So i do need practice with it esp. since the first DA is hell long. Since ill be issued one later and i just need a berreta for practice now.

What do you guys think about gettin a USED 92FS how much will it cost me or should i just buy a new one?

. Keep in mind ill have 2 of the same gun now.

Thank everyone for the FeedBack... =D

I think a beginner would have an advantage with the longer barrelled pistol. You get a longer sight radius, and the added heft helps with the recoil. I like the Beretta a lot despite the wide girth....that also helps to spread out the recoil some as well with the greater surface area. Polymer pistols are lighter in weight and can be a little snappy/whippy compared to a larger and heavier pistol. If the Beretta is what they issue I would like to have one around to get acclimated with assuming they let you take the pistol home to practice with during the training phases.....some depts. might not let you nor incourage you to practice on your own.....I know the LAPD didn't when my sister went through the academy. Why bother practicing on a weapon they won't allow you to carry on duty....at least at this time. Later when you are proficient in the issue weapon then you can get whatever for your own enjoyment and for the sake of crosstraining. The more the merrier at that point.

I've seen recent sales of nice used Beretta 92FS' around $400.

Better off with the H&K P2000 than the Berreta 92F. Brings back too many flashbacks when I was issued a Beretta 96D Brigadeer and I had four guns issued to me in three years.

                              Just my .02 cents.
