    1911 Frame

I am looking to buy a Gov't 1911 Frame for an extra slide I have. I know that the frame has to be registered as a handgun. Does CA allow importation of just frames into the state? Any input would be great.

to my knowledge no. because california requires a drop test. and you cant drop test a frame.

that is what i have been told. cuz i kinda had the same deal as you.

Doesn't this question get asked here every two weeks?

Unless you are an LEO, you can't get a frame from out of state. You may buy a frame as a PPT from another California resident if you can find one or are willing to pay a ridiculous premium to someone who puts it up for sale.

Other than that, you could buy a Springfield Mil-spec, "throw away" the action parts and the topside, and you'll have a decent starting point for a gun.

You either need to PPT it from another CA resident or get it via inter-familial transfer from a parent or grandparent out of state.

or you can locate a springfield SASS or Pachmayr Dominator, have someone install it on a frame of your choice and then have it "imported" under the single shot exemption................there was at least one listed somewhere on calguns.net that was to be loaned out.

Or since you're in Napa, if you can find someone to do it I could be "persuaded" to loan you one of mine to get a frame into the state.

pm me and we can talk.
