Another Sig is this normal wear question/thread

I have probably 2000 to 2500 rounds through my P226 MK25 Desert and I'm noticing in one spot in the rails on the frame the alloy starting to show through. I'll be calling Sig to ask them about this but does this look normal? It seems to be deteriorating around the spot where one of the pins goes into it. I've read that once the alloy starts showing things can go downhill quickly.

Also I'm surprised how much the rest of the rails are showing discoloration. It is kept well lubed (TW25b) and cleaned between each trip to the range.

wow seeing this makes me miss my Older p226. I had a lot of rounds through it and it definitely never showed any wear like that...

Yup, that doesn't look normal for the coating to peel like that. Looks like it was put on too thick

Google FDE coating & SigTalk... there's a whole list of thread on it. Sig was having this issue with their Scorpion FDE finish, they were peeling bad.

Send that Sig to me with a case of Winchester factory ammo.

I will function fire the 1,000 rounds for you and let you know how bad that flaw really is. Don't forget to include money for shipping both ways, range and travel expenses. You should hear back from me next Spring, maybe.

It is not deteriorating. The FDE coating is just flaking off.

I have a 30 year old 226, there's nothing like that wear anywhere on mine.

Ceracote WILL NOT last on the rails.... period. Metal on metal movement will eventually take off any finish. So yep, after the number of rounds you've fired, that's normal. My FDE 227 started to slightly wear on the rear frame rails after 200 rounds. All these people sharing their opinions about their "older" Sigs DONT have Ceracoated guns.

it will probably not affect functionality. i don't know anybody outlast their p226

Sig customer service is indicating that is a normal wear point and showing aluminum there is nothing to worry about...

as stated above, all coating eventually fades from usage. I wouldn't worry about it. the mk25 is a great gun.
