Sig E2 conversion and Double action pull

I had changed out my prior Sig226s to have the newer E2 grips, and never really paid attention to the double action pull.

I picked up an used 226 this week with the old 1990's grip, and I was impressed with how smooth the double action pull was. When I switched this to the newer E2 grip, I realized how ugly the double action pull feels with the new grip. It is not just grittier, but instead of a clean smooth pull, it starts off mushy, gets heavier then finally breaks.

I realize the mainspring needs to break in, but I'm wondering if maybe the older style hammer strut and longer spring had a better double action pull to begin with.

Just wondering for those who have converted their Sig's to the E2 grip, did you notice how much the double action pull was worse after the install? Grittiness will smoothen out with time. The mushiness of the trigger I don't think will smooth out with time.

Sounds like this has nothing to do with E2 grips...sorry I can't help because my X5s DA was not too bad and I was able to reach the trigger fine, so i never looked into E2 grips

Not so much the grips per se, but the install involves changing out the hammer strut and the mainspring. The older strut was longer and had a longer spring as well. Something tells me that the older strut and spring may have had the smoother travel when the hammer went back.

The newer Sigs have the new struts, so the difference I noticed yesterday will probably only affect those who have the older pre 1996's models.

The E2 grip equipped pistols do have a different hammer strut and mainspring boot. It places the same mainspring in a different location, also changing the fulcrum point. The pull weight is less, but it can still feel mushy. Lots of use makes a very positive difference.
