SW J frame grips

Hey-
I'm looking at getting an 60's-70's j frame and want to add original grips to it. What are the correct grips for that. CDNN has some knockoffs and some oversized factory SW targets but i want originals- how much do they roughly run- hard to find iteam?

J frames are the cheaper of the collector type grips. $50 should be tops in most cases.

For real info on this, check out the gurus at the Smith & Wesson forum. You can spend some real money there.

I've tried going on that forum before but i've tried to sign up but says my emails addy is banned. It has done it to my gmail and aol account and yahoo also. I've never been a member there before so it kind of sucks . Tried emailing admin month ago and no response

Yup, you need a hard ISP. They aren't fond of the anon-email systems.
It might have something to do with the amount of money that changes hands there...?

Lots of vintage S&W grips of all sizes and shapes show up on ebay, and lots of junk, like usual. You can get quite an education cruising the ads there, and if you keep an eye out, good deals pop up regularly.

I love early S&W revolvers. I'm come across so many at great prices that I'm afraid if I do pick one up, I'll want to pick up more. I'll stick with collecting 1911s.

I think it might depend on the model. I have a no dash 60 (.38) that has the factory original checkered grips (same style as your M40). My no dash 36 has the same style grips, although i've been told it's a 50's gun. Both guns have the serial number of the gun stamped on the inside of the grips. Was that a common S&W practice?

Early original grips for the 60 were checkered with a diamond insert. They were replaced with the smooth ones with the introduction of the R serial number prefix IIRC.

Early grips often have the gun S/n stamped or written in pencil on the inside.

Correction------------

Correct grips for an early R prefix M60 are checkered without the diamond insert. Not the high horn ones on my M40.

Shoot, at 21 bucks delivered i would have jumped on that deal. I found a few non-diamond ones on ebay, let me see if i can get one of those, if not i'll get you to post a WTB for me. I would appricate that and thanks for your help so far.

Those are correct I'm pretty sure
There is a guy on S&W that has a pair for $37 shipped (I think it is a little high) I'll give you his Email via PM if you want it.
