Question for Shield Owners?

Ok, I was able to create what I think you are talking about now.

When I load the firearm then pull the slide back ~1/4" to confirm a round is in the chamber then release the slide from that position, it does not go back into full battery.

Mine does this too.

Now, as others stated, I am not sure why you would do this when you have the LCI?

It's a good habit to check anyways, since not all guns have a LCI.

I posted a thread about shields firing out of battery after a member on another forum posted about his shield 9mm blowing up. Consensus seems to have been that even if not fully in battery, when you start to press the trigger it should slide into battery.

No idea if this gun can fire when slightly out of battery or not still, or how dangerous that situation would be. Most people seemed to think it's not an issue. I decided to go another route myself so I stopped looking into it.

I just tried to create what I think you are talking about and have failed.

I think that you are suggesting that your CAM&P 9 Shield will not go into full battery when releasing the slide from the slide release, correct?

I cleared my weapon, inserted a mag, release the slide (only using the slide release), the weapon loaded, confirmed weapon was in full battery ready to fire. I tried pushing on the slide to look for additional forward movement and there was none.



I am assuming that 'slingshotted' means you pull the slide all the way back off the slide release then let it go to allow it to travel forward to load, correct?

By all means I do not mean this in any disrespect or in an condescending tone, is it possible that you are limp wristing the firearm and not allowing the full energy of the return spring to be used by the slide?



I am not sure how being unfamiliar with the firearm or a stiff spring would cause the problem you are experiencing?

While the you may not have had experience with that particular firearm, the M&P shield functions just like dozens of other semi-auto handguns.

A stiff spring I suppose could make it hard to pull the slide all the way back. However, if you're able to catch the slide lock then a stiff spring if anything would slam the heck out of the slide back into battery.

If you have time and the capability, can you post a video of the issue you are experiencing?

The stiff spring locks the slide against the catch. There's a lot of energy needed to release it which promotes guiding the slide. The shield slide requires a significantly firmer grip to rack the slide than any pistol I've shot.

I tried to reproduce the issue with some snap caps on video, but was unable to. Naturally, when I was prepping it for nightstand duty with live ammo and tried to induce the issue it did it.

Also, just to be sure, you're not confusing me for the OP right? I don't have the issue unless I'm doing something wrong (guiding the slide). The OP indicated there's no issue entering battery when cycling under cartridge energy. Only has it with the first round. The only thing different between entering battery in that situation and a fire cycle is the point the spring's starting point.

Sounds like something isn't right either way. Since you have the CA model it shouldn't be of any issue for their warranty

My shield was the same, I have since parted with it but I did have the same experience. Still a great pistol!

That's why you just needed to get the non CA version of the shield. No problems with mine.

I own the non-CA version and from what I can tell there is no real difference. I kind of like the CA version.

Why do you need to press check your Shield, when you have the LCI telling you if your gun is loaded or not?

Habit....
