    derringer?

a friend of mine who is a ffl holder has in his inventory 5 22lr. derringers. he asked me what his options are to sell these and i told him " out of state or to another dealer". am i right? or does he have any other option to sell to the private sector behind the iron curtain.

I can only assume they are not listed, right? Are they old enough to be C&Rs? I don't know if this would work. But, if they are his personal guns and not in his inventory, he may be able to PPT them. He could always sell them to LEOs.

they were pawned guns so they are inventory not his personal guns. as a ffl is he allowed to put them in his name then ppt or is that not an option? and if they are c&r that will need to be researched a little.

You said they are .22lr so most likely that they are not antique nor C&R. So the best bet is to sell them to out-of-state collectors. Having 01 FFL does not change anything on his eligibility for those non-Roster/non-C&R guns at all.

They may be single actions and therefore exempt for the safe gun list.

If an FFL transfers inventory to himself, doesn't he have to wait 1 year before he can transfer/PPT them?

How so? I have a couple "derringer" size/style .22s that were patented in the late 1800s. .22 rimfires have been around longer than any modern centerfire cartridge.

The .22 Long Rifle is an old cartridge developed by Peters Cartridge in 1887.

Cobra out in Utah has some derringers listed. I've got the 38 special. The trigger pull on them is monstrous though.
