    1911 magazines

I am very new to 1911s
My Ruger SR1911 is in transit to my local gunshop and is my first 1911.

I am aware that many 1911 related issues stem back to magazines.

    The SR1911 ships with a 7&8rd magazine.
Will these be alright to use?

Are Wilson combat mags still considered to be the best?
Are Chip McCormick or MecGar mags worth considering?
Do the 10rd quality mags feed reliably?

    Thank you for the help.

Both magazines are by Checkmate. I have the 2 that came with mine and a few different types of Checkmates. All are GTG. The 7 rounders have noticeably more robust springs than the 8 rounders. I'm thinking these might maybe last longer.

The 2 Wilson 47Ds I bought years ago both had issues till I replaced the 8rd springs with 7rd ones. Overpriced & overrated IMO.

The MecGars I have are also GTG. Good bang for the buck.

      Chip McCormick mags work great?
People have also have good results with the Wilsons.
Personally I have many Chip McCormick mags and they always work with the 1911s that I have owned.

Tripp research mags are highly regarded as well. CMC power mags in 7 and 8 round version have worked well for me. I can't vouch for any of the 10 rounders.

I have a SR 1911 and pretty much every mag I have used on it works so far I have tested Wilson 47d, Wilson 47 ETM, Tripp Cobras, CMC power mags, and even other free mags that came with other 1911s not a single failure. So far I have only tested FMJ from remington, federal and wwb all 230 grain. Have yet to test any HP stuff.

Tripp Cobra Mags are the best 8-round 1911 mags in production (they are also one of the most expensive).

Wilson ETM mags are also excellent 8-round mags (but the Tripp follower edges out the ETM).

CMC power mags work well for many users, but they are stuffing 8 rounds into a 7 round mag body length (Tripp and Wilson ETM's use longer mag bodies).

Wilson 47D's are a waste of money, the ETMs are much better and cost the same.

I prefer Tripp over all others.

I have also found their rebuild kits with the hybrid follower and industrial grade springs will generally allow me to return a "bad" magazine back into the "good" drawer.

I have also had good luck with WC mags, of these I prefer ETM's. But for close to the same money, I just get Tripp (in all calibers).

                I don't do 10 round 1911 magazines in 45 Auto.

10rd Chip McCormicks. Currently on sale at midway. I run 2 of them and a 7 rd kimber tac mag in IDPA, never had an issue.

I own and use all of the mags mentioned in this thread. When I buy a new 1911, I take a couple of each and a few hundred rounds and see what the gun likes.
Most times it will run great with all, but on a couple there was problems with certain mags. Also you need to decide if you want/need flush fitting mags or extended base. For flush fitting eight rounders I like CMC or Kimber tac mags, extended base eight rounders in this order, Tripp cobra, CMC power mag, Wilson ETM. Ten round mags, I have CMC and Tripp, rate the CMC higher just for the stronger base pad.
Kimber Desert Warrior and mags used to test/brake in gun. Ran great with all of them, but decided to go with the Tripp eight rounders as I added a magwell.

Tripp Cobra mags are my favorite.

I have Wilson Combat and Kimber Magazines. Mainly 8 rounders and a couple 7 rounders.

Neither have given me any issues. I prefer the fit and finish of the Wilson Combat.

I have the 8 round Chip McCormicks and I like the added pad on the bottom so you can slap the mag in. Others have that feature too. Can't say I have experience with any other brands. I'm only on my 2nd 1911...
