7.5" AR pistol in 5.56. Worth it?

I recently finished a 10" AR pistol in 300 BLK. I haven't shot it much but so far, no issues. Ive always had the plan to build another pistol in 5.56. My plan was to go either 1.) straight 7.5" barrel or 2.) 7.5" barrel with a flaming pig which will put it around 10" or 3.) 10-10.5" barrel. Does any of these set ups run better than the other? Any suggestions before I order a barrel?

Is 7.5" AR pistol in 5.56 worth it? Everyone is going to have their own opinion, as it's really going to depend on what YOU decide what its intended purpose is, and if it's going to be useful to you for that purpose.

For me, my 7.5" 5.56 AR pistol is extremely accurate up to 125 yards, but I mostly shoot it at 20-50 yards for "real world SHTF" or HD-like distances. While it wouldn't be my first choice for SHTF or HD (way too lound for inside the house compared to handguns), I like knowing that it's setup and ready to go if I need it. I'm not looking to shoot 150+ yards with mine (if I need to, I'll use my 16" rifles). I have a KAK flash can on the front and that keeps all of the blast out of my face when my nose is on the CH, and it makes shooting the 7.5" pistol comfortable and fun.

Yes, my AR pistol is a fun range toy. Yes, I have people always wanting to shoot it. No, I do not regret building it up as I probably spent around $550 total on everything from an 80% build.

    Just my $.02

I would of done it the other way around a 7.5" 300 blk with flaming pig & 10.5" 5.56

For a range toy its fun, but for HD not good. It will over penetrate since the bullet does not reach high enough velocity to fragment even with HD rounds.

My first ar pistol was a 7.5" 5.56. Nice and compact, LOUD, needed tweaking to run reliably - extraction issues. My 2nd ar pistol is a 10.5" 5.56. No issues whatsoever.

If you can expect to do a little tuning and want a super compact platform go with a 7.5". If you want it to have the fewest issues and still be able to fragment 5.56 FMJ's, do the 10.5.

All firearms will penetrate drywall. Fragmentation rounds aren't meant to fragment against walls, but rather hard targets such as steel.

              Ah, the penetration debates continue...

No matter, a 7.5" pistol is worth owning only because the government doesn't want you too. It will outshoot any handgun as far as accuracy and quantity (30 rounds with a legal mag) and I wouldn't want to be on the muzzle end of one.

There must be a good reason the law uses SBR's, an AR pistol is as close as you can get to one in California.

Did I mention it's a blast to shoot?

                  I love mine!

I plan on putting a flaming pig on it eventually.

Why do you need one? Just get yourself a double barreled shotgun.

My favorite answer to the question "why do you need it?" is: "I don't need a f***ing reason to have one." And not just for guns - anything...

Of course they are. They are leaving ts of fun, accurate ( I shoot mine up to 200, never stretched it out), if for self defense I prefer a shotgun as well but thats my opinion on that subject. If you shoot in areas that are <200 yards then why not?
