Range report: CZ 75 Shadow Custom 9mm
Hay all i picked up my CZ 75 Shadow Custom recently and made it to the range a few times so i though i would share some of my experiences with this pistol so far.
I am liking this pistol and for some reasons i did not expect.
I am really liking the CZC target sights on this pistol for shooting withing 7 yards. The rear sight notch is shallower than the others i have. The front sight is also a bit wider witch seams to help at 7 yards but not quite as good for me at 15 yards.
The slide to frame fit is looser than my other CZ's. This concerned me a little at first but it dose not seam to effect its accuracy. The fit and finish are typical for a CZ although this one seams to have a little more uniformity to the polycoat.
I also like the Shadow paddle safetys. They provide a prefect place for my strong hand thumb without having to think about where i am positioning it.
There is no pre-travel adjustment screw in the Shadow Customs trigger like the other 85c trigger i have from CGW installed in my CZ75BD. I do not notice its absence, because i do not shoot much DA. Both pistols have over travel set screws for SA that are similar.
This is the first CZ i have acquired that has no firing pin block. It is also my first experiences with any custom work from CZC. I have read quite a bit from different sources about the absence of a firing pin block in a CZ. Some make a big deal of it and others do not. The SA reset and SA take up are shorter on the 75 Shadow Custom than my CZ75BD with the CGW Pro Package work done. This is at least in part due to the Pre B Short Reset / Swing forward Disconnector newly available on the 2014 Custom model. To some degree the shortness of the reset was available through other means pre 2014, to what degree i cannot tell you because i do not own nor have a fired a pistol that has had this work done on it. I may go into further detail about the differences in this pistol and the CZ w/ CGW Pro Package in another post comparison that i am thinking about doing down the line.
I have about 500 rounds through this pistol so far. I believe that it still needs a little more break in but it shoots plenty well for me at this point. The custom work removes essentially all of the creep from the trigger. This makes smoothing out the trigger like i normally do on all of my CZ's less noticeable once achieved.
I swapped out the CZC Thin Alum Grips for the stock plastic grips. They fit my hands the best. I plan on continuing to experiment with grips but for now these suit me.
Edit: I would like to use Nill grips on this pistol but they do not fit under the shadow paddle safetys. I may try to have another pair of shadow paddle safetys cut down so i can install Nill grips. All around i find Nill grips to be the most comfortable.
