    Buying Ammo Online (SF)

I've been buying ammo online here and there over the last two years here in San Francisco. I know many retailers won't ship here for whatever reason. Usually do to misinformation. But this is a new excuse I just got from a store. Is this true? I've never heard of this before and I don't want to be breaking any laws.

"City of SF has a city law that requires that ammunition sold in SF city limits may only be done so face-to-face where ID is presented in person. I understand that some vendors ship there because the law is not regularly enforced, but I will not ship ammo there, jsut too risky. If you have an alternate address outside of city limits I'm fine with shipping there."

    — Online Ammo Retailer

    1. I've never heard of such a law requiring that any ammo sales must be done face-to-face. That would mean any online sales are prohibited.

    2. I think maybe the retailer is misinterpreting the wording (if it does exist). It would make sense that the law would be that IF you sell/purchase ammo face-to-face within city limits, THEN you must present ID. But since online sales are not face-to-face, it shouldn't matter.

    3. Even if this were the case, couldn't I just send a copy of my ID to the store and be done with it?
