Is it much more effective and/or harder to conceal than the 3.3?

concealment is normally made harder by the grip.
The grip has a tendency to stick out because the barrel is along the side of the body. For instance, if the firearm is either in a straight holster or stuck in the pants, the barrel goes down your leg where the grip tries to stick out.
This means that the barrel length makes little to know difference for concealment.
Now consider that you are comparing the XDs 3.3 verses 4.0. You only have a 0.70" difference in a dimension that does not make much difference.
My conclusion is that there is little to no difference in how the two carry.Comment

^except AIWB carry where barrel length is huge (if u want to sit down).Comment

The difference in comfortable carry is largely a personal one.
I will say that my understanding is that the added length is more beneficial in the .45 than in the 9mm. Two of the problems the added length solves are recoil and short barrel ballistics, and those are potential problems in the short .45 but less so in the 9mm.Comment
