Looking for a new subcompact 9mm

Much as I love my 92FS, I'm sick of getting my thigh rubbed raw by the barrel when I'm in the car, and I'm looking at getting a subcompact.

I'd like to pay no more than $500, but that's not a hard and fast limit.

I'm not a fan of Glocks.

I do like DA/SA, but I'm not tied to it exclusively.

I don't think I really want SA only, but I'm not completely against it - I've carried 1911's C&L before, and I'm not uncomfortable with the concept of C&L so much as with the idea of things getting snagged on the hammer. Regardless, the micro-Sigs are probably out, but more on price than on the SA only thing.

I've handled an M&P Shield, and I don't dislike it - I can buy one of those quite easily for WELL within my budget.

    I haven't handled the XD-S yet.

Any other suggestions of things I should look at? I'm particularly interested in what your reasoning is for each suggestion, too.

You really need to try out the XDs.

Another option would be the Kahrs. Your price point would fit a CW-9 with tax and DROS included.

I quite like the service model XD9. I shot a 3-gun match with one a few years back, did quite well.

Very similar to the XD service but smaller, lighter, and a single stack which makes it much easier to conceal.

I know it's beyond your budget, but have you thought of a P229 or M11? They're significantly shorter than a Beretta and, in my experience, more accurate. When SD starts issuing, it will be my CCW.

i know you said you dont like Glocks...and believe you me, neither did I...until i got my G27 (sub compact .40). And i like it even more when i swap out my barrels and run 9mm through it. If i had an extra 400-500 for another handgun, I'd get a G26 just for poops and giggles.
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.

How can you not be fan of the glock. They are the best try the 26 you won't be disappointed.

Okay, I'll see about looking at one of those. I've shot several SIGs before, and owned some too, and I liked them. They might be more than what I want to spend, but they're probably not more than I could spend.

I've owned subcompact Glocks before, and I've shot many full size ones. I hated the feel of them in my hand. Too thick, too chunky, the grip just felt wrong, they didn't point naturally for me ... I just don't like Glocks.

My vote also. I had a 92FS and sold it for $500, so I think you're in good shape.

Oh, my Beretta is NOT going away. I love my Beretta. This is in addition to, not instead of.

XDS is a good deal right now with the free mags but based on your dislike for Glocks and lukewarm feelings for the Shield, I suspect you would not be thrilled with it.

If I were in your shoes, I'd take a serious look at the CZ 2075 RAMI and the Walther PPS.

                            How do you carry?

The OP liked the XD service model.

The CZs are nice but I do not know enough about them as of yet to know how well of a carry gun the make. They are reliable and many are very fond of them. I am in the process of learning more about them now.
