Revolver questions...

Being only a semi-auto owner, I am curious about some "revolver-things":

1) Does the case hit the back of the frame just behind the cylinder when firing rimmed cases?
There is clearly a gap:

I am guessing that with the thinner case-walls (than semi-auto cases) they might just expand before they have a chance to push-back against the frame.
2) When flipping out the cylinder do cases touch the frame, or are they seated as fully as when you first loaded them?

Now in rimless cartridges such as 9mm that Ruger makes revolvers for, I see the same gap, but with thicker-walled cases, I assume that they might not expand as much so the back of the case would be sitting against the frame behind the cylinder.
3) Is this correct?


This is just some things I was pondering recently.

In revolvers such as the polished 357 above:
4) Can the barrel be replaced in models that don't look to have an unscrew-able barrel (the above pictures look like they are part of the frame)?
5) Do MFRs replace barrels... "gratis" with their warranty (Ruger lifetime warranty, etc...only on certain models)?
6) How much does it cost to replace one if it's not covered/replaced "gratis"?
7) Can you swap barrels yourself?

1. The gap is where the case head fits as the Ruger does not have recessed chambers.


2. First thing is to NEVER "flip" out the cylinder. You push the release and then push the cylinder open. Same for closing, push the cylinder closed DO NOT "FLIP" IT CLOSED. Oh, and the cases may touch the recoil shield, but even if they do it really doesn't matter.

Why are you so worried about changing barrels???? With revolvers you buy the gun with the barrel length you want. If you have one that you want a longer/shorter barrel just get another gun.

That way you get to have more revolvers.

Swapping barrels would be concern for your children if you wear one over the next 50 years. THAT is assuming that revolvers will still be on the safe handgun roster by the time your children inherit them...

so why is it bad to "flip" it open or closed? does it cause damage to the pistol? i own a GP100 and i do this occasionally, not to be cool but to be kkeewwlll

It damages the crane (Colt speak)/yoke (S&W speak). It's something they do in movies for dramatic effect, (and we all know how accurate movies are when it comes to firearms) but it is very hard on your gun. I can think of many other ways to be kkeewwll, like getting a set of gold teeth so you have a grill.

Or you can just wear your hat sideways.

The best solution is to get out of that socialist paradise and raise your children in a free state.

It and snapping a break open shotgun shut are two no-no's you see all the tile, even on "gun" shows.
