Another Final SSE question thread P227 vs VP9

I only have one slot available this year and I'm torn between the two. I already own a standard VP9 and it feels amazing in my hand and I would like a second one in the LE configuration and have found a few with great prices. The P227 is something I want more though, my 226 in a .45 would be great and I'm a huge Sig fan. I am reluctant to get the 227 because I read that Sig has not smoothed out the problems with it and it may be unreliable, but this is just what I can find on forums and those who posted seem to over react to minor things. So what does CG think about the 227 is it reliable or should I get a second VP9 for trade later.

I would go with the SIG for sure. You already have a VP9 and can always switch out the sights if you prefer the night sights of the LE model.

The complaints about the P227 seem to be over blown. Both the Indiana State Police and the Pennsylvania State Police have chose the P227 for their duty guns. I have to believe they are pretty reliable if SIG got those contracts.

Alright I also thought the claims seemed to be over reactions. I have been looking at the FDE model does any one know if the finish Sig puts on is durable and looks good. I've seen some high resolutions pics and the finish looks glossy and caked on is it a more matte finish in hand?

I have a 227 with a January 2014 build date. It had a crap short reach trigger which has improved slightly with use. It will be replaced when budget allows.

My 227 runs well and shoots much like you are expecting - 226 in .45! I am happy with mine so far but would say there seems to be lots of variation in quality. A patient man could be rewarded with a more stable platform or build options Sig doesn't offer today. I have mine so I guess I'm not a patient man.

        - > Sigs FDE cerakote is top notch. I'm happy with the finish on my scorpions and FDE Mk25. I much prefer cerakote and may opt for a dark dip on the 227 since I'm a little heavy on FDE.

I no longer own any HKs but I can say with certainty, the ones I've owned have been rock solid. Fit, function and finish has never been an issue.

Is it really that bad? I have the SRT on my stainless elite 226 and love it.

Get the one you want now and if it has problems let Sig take care of it. If you trade for one later the warranty goes bye-bye. Oh, and I'm also believe the problems are overblown...there's nothing like a whole bunch of bored people collaborating over the internet to make a problem seem worse than it is.

I hated the trigger at first but I'm getting used to it. It will be replaced. It's not the SRT you have on the Elite 226. (Really nice choice by the way!) There is a Short Reset Trigger which is what's on your 226 and a Short Reach Trigger on the 227. The short reach trigger is exactly that - shorter and no where near as nice and smooth as the Short Reset Trigger. The trigger felt stiff and excessively gritty but after about 1000 dryfire pulls, it's begining to feel lighter and smother.
