Ok fellas so here it is, picked up my 3rd 1911 it's a 2011 ria vz railed 10mm. Love the look and feel of it, bought it off a fellow cal gunner and he put 120 rounds through it. Upon receiving the gun I broke it down and cleaned and lubed it to my liking and took it to the range this weekend. I'm sad to report that shooting factory armscor 10mm ( that I've never had a malfunction in my s&s&w 1006) I was sorely surprised when I noticed the gun FTE. Noticing the brass was not ejecting and being stuck by the next remaining bullet trying to load I to the breech. the casing was sticking out of the barrel just a tad like it was trying to eject. Tried multiple times with the same thing happening about 50% of the time. Even trying to shoot it with 1 bullet in the mag and ending up with the same result. This is with the stock magazine and I have no others to test with at this time. I know guns ask for a 500 rounds break in period but this seems like an extractor issue to me and I'm curious if I should "bite the bullet" and just send it back to ria to be fine tuned or should I buy another mag which I will in the future anyways and try or am I wasting my time by not sending it in? Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks fellas

Make the effort to buy an aftermarket mag. Those RIA mags are notorious for causing FTE's

Get the good Wilson magazines and don't shoot weak ammo or you'll not overpower the spring. Get some Underwood for about $0.60 per round. It is hotter than Double Tap and the others, and cheaper too. Your ammo selection is at fault.

I'll have to pick up some mags and try some different ammo. Sucks I have about 400 rounds of armscor in my safe. Thanks fellas I'll have to try both and report back

You could always get some Blue Dot, pull the bullets, empty the powder, and put some hot loads back in, lol.

Before you send it back to RIA, try different magazines. Also, you may want to have the gun checked over by a gunsmith. I know a great 1911 specialist: Mark Bunach (http://www.ocgunsmith.com/). He's like the "gun whisperer." Seriously. He can read metal. Guns talk to him. If you can't figure it out, before you send it to RIA, try looking him up first. It's worth an e-mail or a call. Crappy magazine
Get a Wilson or Tripp Cobra magazine. They are pricey but you gotta pay for the best.
If it still messes up with those magazines, send it back.
Rock Island customer service is among the best.

I have both Wilson and Colt 10mm stainless magazines. The Colts are "bullet proof" works of art! I keep 5 that are my "training" magazines and I've abused the crap out of them. I've never cleaned them with the exception of just wiping them down at the end of the day from the range. I swear by them.....if you can still find them.

Originally, I bought about 5-6 at a time and now own about 35 of the colts. (I over do it when it comes to keeping magazines in stock). I always use the same ones until they give up the ghost. I've shot several thousands of round through those "5" and have NEVER ever had a problem with any of them.

You can try searching the RIA sub-forum on 1911forum.com. There's a guy on there who got a 10mm RIA work reliably after working out all the kinks. Seems like most RIA 10mm owners were able to have great success from his discoveries.

Sounds like an extractor issue if the brass is still half chambered. I would think you would be getting stovepipes instead if your ammo is underpowered.

UPDATE- Recieved the new plug from Ivan. Upon installing and attempting to install my slide stop. I noticed the slide would not go back as far as I needed to install it. Upon inspection I also noticed Neither guide rod plugs would slide into the guide rod area, I could get the plug started by itself but noticed it was insanely tight even just beyond starting it, I then inserted the plug into the barrel side just to test it and it slid in with no problems. My next question is this, is everything out of whack now? What am I to do, this is quite frustrating and I've worked on my other 1911's and my dad's (kimber 4 inch) so I'm familiar with releasing tension off these guide rods with a paper clip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You had FTE, with the spent casing not coming out. why is all the attention on mag problems? Could it not be that the ejector needs tuning or replacing?

Ran it today at my local range, with the new guide rod installed and shooting a variety of different ammo it cut down on my FTE by heaps. Was noticing between the 4th/5th shot rounds would get semi stuck in the chamber and a quick tap to the slide got the round seated. Shot about 150 rounds through it and it's running 10X better than previously. Found a small issue with a burr on the feed ramp and guide rod fitment is tight again, gonna make a few adjustments and take it to the range asap.

Armscor 180 is one of the weakest 10mm ammo I have found. Perhaps steping up to some full power 10mm might help. Underwood has good ammo!
