    M9/92 vs 1911

Disclaimer: I am NOT looking for a 9mm vs 45 ACP debate

I think I'm pretty set on getting another new handgun sometime soon, and at first was thinking about getting another 1911, then started thinking about the Beretta. I've shot some a couple times (family members) and liked it. Now I'm at a cross road here. So am looking for some advise for you folks! Pros cons of each would be great! Thank you!

If you shoot 45, then there's obviously only one choice Since you already have a 1911, is there something about yours that you feel is lacking? If not, why not get something different such as the Beretta you're contemplating?

Get the Beretta for something different. I have an M9A1 and love it, almost as much as my SA Stainless Loaded!

Nope not lacking anything and I absolutely love it! That's why I was considering another one since the bug has bitten again!

I'm thinking that too, to diversify the safe a little

I've got 2 beretta's soon to be three, and 3 1911's. Along with some other stuff, diversify for the fun factor. Plus when your at the range, you can swap back and forth to give your hand a break.

              If you've already got a 1911, it's time for a Beretta.

I think you fine folks are right. I just wish I could get both. I have a 1911 in the standard black/brown grips, now I want a stainless one

I've owned a Beretta 92 and a Taurus 92 for years. I qualified and carried the M9 when I was active duty in the USAF. With the USAF qualifications I've shot perfect scores with the M9 most of the time. I traded the Taurus and a family member talked me into selling the Beretta to him. I don't miss any of the two at all. Doesn't mean they're not good guns it's just that the single stack 1911 fits my hands better. I shoot better with 1911s and that's why I'm a die hard 1911 fan. I vote 1911, but I won't argue if you buy both.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 1911, it is one of my personal favorite guns ever made. My thinking is instead of having two of the same things, why not diversify. I'm going to try and shoot the M9 before I decide to see what I think

                      Another question.....

                      Difference between M9 and 92?

                        There's nothing wrong with diversity. I've got 1911's, SIG's, Ruger's, S&W's, Browning's...

There's no need to stick to one specific type of gun. Hey, it's your collection. Go wild, dude. --1911ShooterPhil

I'm not a fan of any one brand or model, I like a wide range. So since you have a 1911 already go for the beretta.

The Beretta 92FS is a fine handgun. It's not the best 9mm I've shot (or own) but it does what it's designed to do and it's tough to beat 20+ years of combat proof.

Yes, I know my fellow service members poo poo the M9 as often as they crack open a Monster or a can of dip, but the truth is that a privately owned brand new M9 is a very nice handgun. Many service members forget that those M9's have been shot, dropped, battered and abused more time than that $5 "friend" in the Philippines or Thailand.

Given that you already have a 1911, get the M9 and you won't be disappointed. If you're just looking for 9mm in general, look at the P226 or P229 with a short reset trigger. I would go to my P226 over my M9 any day of the week. It's so accurate, it almost isn't fun to shoot!

Diversity is great. Make a list, start knocking it down and then add to your list!

Functionally, they are the same. The M9 has the 3 dot sights where as the 92 has a the same rear sights but instead of dots it has a little white bar. If someone knows of another difference I'm sure they'll add in, but my issued M9 shoots and feels the same as my 92, aside from being beat to hell over the years by other Marines.

Got that backwards. The M9 has the dot and post sights, and the 92, 92A1 and M9A1 have three-dot sights. That being said, you can easily repaint them to either variation.
