    Pawn Transfer

Quick question guys.... my dad bout a smith and Wesson 10-7 revolver off a friend back in 93, didn't go through ffl just bought it off him and never transferred it to his name. he doesn't shoot much at all anymore and I'm interested in registering under my name so I talked to my local ffl dealer and he suggested a pawn transfer. I asked about it and he basically said u leave it here for 10 days, I run it, and its yours. Is that pretty much all there is to it? Also, what would the actions or consequences be if for any reason the gun came back stolen or was used in a crime or anything? According to him he bought it from the store and just fired 3 shots but needed money fast. So I'm debating, any suggestions?
    Thanks

Never heard of a Pawn Transfer.

Sounds like a Private Party Transfer

Pawn transfer is the same as a dros transfer. Pawn shops are required to have the proper license to buy and sell firearms.

Dad-to-Son would be covered under interfamilial transfer. Dad give you the gun, you fill out paperwork and send to DOJ with a check.

DOJ isn't gonna know how long your dad has owned it or if he bought if before transfers were required thru an FFL, especially if he's had it that long.

You and your dad both live in CA, right?

If so, intrafamilial transfer sounds like the right answer at this point - see the wiki for details -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Tr...Family_Members -- but it's as Untamed posted.

You will need an HSC; the form asks for the number.

If it were to turn up on a stolen list, I believe you would hear from the DOJ, but I have not heard of that happening with an intrafamilial, so I'm not sure.
