Why does froglube break down my foam?

I found out today that a part of my foam case is wet with Froglube and the part of the foam thats wet is broke down. Looks almost like old foam when it breaks apart. All powdery and weird. Has this happen to anyone before?

Might be interacting with any grease/oil residue that may have been in the case if you just switched over to frog lube.

yeah, frog lube eats petroleum based stuff... i think. i'm not educated in all the sciences involved though... chemicals. yeah, you know.

It can actually penetrate the pores in the metal, so foam is no problem.

I was just thinking, why was the case wet? How did you apply the frog lube?

I applied froglube generously for storage. Its one of the guns I dont shoot very often. The gun presses onto the foam and the frog lube drips onto the foam. I think the pressure + froglube combination disintegrate the foam. Its soft black foam. I dont see any reaction on hard plastic yet.

You should have just heated the metal and used the paste. That way it's dry and would still protect your gun long term. I think applying that much of any oil, grease, protectant would screw up your foam.

(Just for reference purposes) I have a Doskocil rifle case with egg-crate foam padding that has been saturated with Break Free CLP since 1986, and the foam has not deteriorated at all.
