    Springfield Milspec 1911

    Hi,

Is Springfield Milspec 1911 based on 80 series or 70 Series? I mean does it have firing pin safety?

I thought all the springfields were 70 series.

All the Springfields are 70 series but they utilize a light titanium firing pin and extra power firing pin spring to pass the drop test.

I have a different opinion than the others.....but not about this.
70 series with lighter firing pin and heavier spring as perfectly stated above.
That's why Springfields are great base guns.

Yes, but you might want to look into an off roster range officer for only a bit more depending on how much your getting the milspec for.

does it mean that trigger on milspec could be tuned better than colt 80 series?

I know two guys personally whom have problems with their recently bought mil specs (made in USA)

Both have failure to ignite primers
My friends mil spec had a 1 in 6 round failure to fire.

Now thats said and done. I too have a mil spec, however it was an early 2000 made in Brasil production. Goes bang every time.

And the drop test has got to be the most bulls*** test ever created

Let's drop a colt single action! Oh wait those are exempt from roster but nooo we can't pass a HK45 without dropping, and LCI, mag disconnect and a f***ing stupid microstamp with technology that doesn't even exist yet!

Did your friends strip the mil spec before firing? I had the same problem on my mil spec when new. Totally disassemble the mil spec and found lot of grease inside the fire pin channel. I gave it a good clean and the mil spec is now 100% reliable. Mine is the NM serial number.

You know... we never talked about that
I can see how that IS a failure point (build up of grease/lube/debris in the firing pin channel.)

I'll pass it up the chain
