Springfield XD/XDM Owners - Input Needed

    Hey all

Am close to getting a new Striker-fired 9mm and the new HK VP9 is on my short list. I just stumbled across the Springfield Armory Gear Up promotion though so started looking at the XD/XDM series because of the promotion. I've never owned a HK or SA pistol, hell, my last pistol I purchased way back was a S&W 4006. I realize I'm going to be getting somewhat biased advice here but thought I'd ask anyway so here goes.

How well do the XD/XDM fit people with medium/small hands?

How durable is the finish coating?

    Quirks/Issues with the XD/XDM Series?

How is SA Customer and Warranty Service?

I have the XD9 service and it's pretty much been claimed by my wife as hers. She has smaller hands and doesn't like the grip on my Glock 17.
I have nothing bad to say about the XD9; have had zero issues with it through 800+ rounds of any type of ammo.
I have shot a friends XDM 5.25" in 9mm and it's a sweet shooting gun.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you go with the XDM (in 9mm), you will need to get the mags blocked as they don't make 10 rounders for the 9mm (the full size .45 mags from the XD line work with the .45 XDM).

As for SA customer service I couldn't tell you because I've never had to use them - which is a good thing

      XD9 is good-to-go for medium/small hands.

It's also especially smooth shooting because of the large slide mass.

The finish is solid ... no issues there to speak of.

The only quirk is the backstrap safety ... but it's no big deal.

The Xdm line has adjustable back straps.

How well do the XD/XDM fit people with medium/small hands?
My hands are mediumish-large. They fit great. I do use Talon rubberized grip wraps to boost 'stickyness'.

How durable is the finish coating?
Melonite is exceptionally durable and very resistant to most commonly used cleaning products.

            Quirks/Issues with the XD/XDM Series?
They force me to spend lots of money on ammo because they are fun to shoot. Some people don't like the grip safety. As such, they probably don't like 1911s either...my other favorite

How is SA Customer and Warranty Service?
I own three XDs. Haven't had a need to contact them.

Agreed with all the above. I have smaller hands and have NO issues with a pacymr (sp?) grip on my XDm .45 4.5"

As mentioned above, my fiance has claimed my XD9 4" and fits her great!

Still getting used to the XDs .45 3.3" - don't care for it at this point.

No issues...spring kit installed on the XDs. SOlid guide rod on the XDm. longer mag release on the XD.

              Night sights on all 3...

You won't go wrong with the SA line!!

              good luck,
              Michael J.

I have the XD45 service model. It fits my medium sized hands perfect. I shoot it way better than my M&P 9 full size. I'm sending the slide away tomorrow for night sights.

                I really love mine.

I might be in the minority, I don't like the long creep on the stock trigger. Love my XD45 after getting the trigger job done by Springfield.

I have medium hands and the service size fits me great. It looks un-ergonomic but holding it is great, no "adjusting" my hold or anything after picking it up. The side panels are pretty smooth but the front and back strap checkering is aggressive enough that I don't need grip tape or slip on rubber grip. I don't have any experience with the other areas since I just bought it, though I find it interesting that they deliberately made the guide rod stick out the front a bit to increase the chance of it firing correctly if you ever have to fire it pressed into someone.

How well do the XD/XDM fit people with medium/small hands? Excellent

How durable is the finish coating? Much more durable than Glocks current finish

Quirks/Issues with the XD/XDM Series? Trigger is a but mushy but with use it cleans up nicely

How is SA Customer and Warranty Service? Excellent

I love my XD40, I got it decked out with the PRP match trigger and it reduces trigger creep with ZERO overtravel. I was thinking of getting a glock or sig, but live the ergos and balance of the gun so much- an xdm will be likely in the future.

Xd40 here. I also had worries regarding the backstrap safety, but natural gripping of the gun takes care of that. I like the fact that my 6 year cannot rack the slide due to not gripping it and covering the backstrap. Never had an issue with it and thinking about getting the 9 conversion barrel. Save some money by getting the xd and spend what u saved on ammo or range fees/maybe a membership. HK is over rated in my opinion. I've shot a few different models and can say I'm not impressed.

I have the XD Tactical and it's replaced my G19 as the house gun. I don't know that the 1" extra length in the barrel is all that important but I like the looks and it shoots really well.

If I buy another one it will be the "Essential" model as I now have enough mags to last a lifetime.

XD9 here and I have small/ med hands. I held one at a gun show a couple years ago and went to buy one the next day. I like my 1911 because of the thin grip and the XD is even more comfortable for me. Good luck.
