    springfield 40 cal essentials package

Sorry if this is repeated; haven't seen it.
Looking for the best sub compact single stack subcompact.
Heard great things about the Springfield 40 Essentials with the 3" barrel and of course the Shield with specs close to this.
Looking for the .40 not the 9mm.
I can't carry where I'm located, but still looking at the CCW for possible future use.
I know there's a million options as far as brands and calibers, but I'm stuck on these two. I have the Glock 27, but don't want to get into that discussion.
I also don't want to get into the discussion of try everything and judge for yourself; I'm just looking for opinions on these two handguns and go from there; obviously it's still my choice.
    Short and sweet please.
    Thanks for your expert opinions.

There is no best, otherwise there will be only 1 gun company.

The XD Series Sub Compact is almost dimensionally the same as the G27. Pretty much 10 round, semi-staggered magazine. 9 and 40 caliber. Essential package pricing (~$430) is available.

The XD-S, is the single stack. 9 and 45 caliber, no 40 caliber at the moment, and no essential package as far as I know of. This one more or less goes against the Shield.

XD's are good for me, I have a few including the XD-S in 9mm. There is also a 3 free magazine going on right now to sweeten a deal.

Oh, you said expert opinion, ignore my post.

      XD is a nice pistol.
I have both the Subcompact and the Service 4" in .40.
